Title: Luftwaffe Flanker
Post by: B777LR on May 30, 2006, 01:14:23 PM
If the luftwaffe had decided against Eurofighters, is this what they would have ended up with?

GAAHH!!!!!  NOOOOO!!!!!!  That Falcon's head from the 107th FS!!!  ON A LUFTWAFFE BIRD?!?!   (sob)

Sorry, always get emotional when I see a decal from that old decal sheet, and it's not on a Michigan bird.  Not a bad looking Flanker, I like the compass ghost scheme on it.

Greg, the Falcon's head is from an old decal sheet for the Michigan and Minnesota ANG's F-16A's.  The 107th Fighter Squadron out of Selfridge ANGB had a few planes done up with that marking on the tail when they first converted over from A-7D's.

Here's some pics:

I recently used them in my Michigan Eagles batch, with them going onto an F-15E.

Anthony,

Thanks for that - I must admit though that the Falcon looks much more appropriate than my first impression of what it was - a penguin crossed with a kangaroo  !

Greg

Decals:
Two birds behind cockpit is italeri from the A4 skyhawk
The two falcons on the tail are from the latest airfix F16 sheet
German markings are from the very old Airfix hawker Seahawk blisterpack.
German flags on the tail are from a revell eurofighter kit.

That's exactly what I thought - for one moment I started thinking of a Buccaneer in RAN markings  :D

Nice model B777
