In 1973,the last of the CASA produced He-111s were being withdrawn. Not bad for a German bomber designed in the 30s and updated with Merlins, but something newer was needed.Several designs were looked at,and it was decided that the Canberra was the best. The problem was at the time, politics between Spain, and the UK weren't on the greatese terms. The solution was American B-57Bs.Recently,the Spanish Navy had also placed an order through the US Navy for some American built Harriers since BAe couldn't sell them directly. The same process would be used for the Canberras. The B-57s were to be used as part of the NATO nuclear deterent with US controlled weapons. They also had a conventional role as well.Germany was also a partner in this program and Dornier and CASA eventually set up a production line.At first, just to make spares for the Spanish and German B-57s,then soon, making whole aircraft. These were upgraded several times and stayed active up into the late '90s,mainly in the support roles of Recon,EW and maritime patrol. After retirement from Spanish and German air forces, several were exported to countries such as Greece and Turkey.

Nice Idea... I heard rumors that Franco wanted nuclear weapons at one time...there was a film two-yaers ago (I was in spain at this time).
Spanish B-57.
Great idea, especially in those lovely Spanish colours...camouflaged and dirty, like their F/RF-5As.
AND I've big He-111 Spanish decals too!!!
