Some progress on all 3 ongoing kits this week, but not sure what progress will be like in the coming week as I have a few things to get done, including my second Covid jab, they called me 3 weeks early

Meanwhile I was browsing the stash this morning whilst waiting for some paint to dry and I came across an Eduard 1/72 Mig 21. Now I bought this at a show when it first came out, although I don't really know why ?  Had a look at it and it looks very nice with etch and a masking set included, but what to do with it ? Now there's a couple of nice real world versions in the box, but the next real world projects are already earmarked, then suddenly the brain had an idea, probably triggered by "Operation Downfall" being one of the choices in the ongoing GB poll.

So what's the idea ? Now supposing Downfall had gone ahead and as part of it the Soviets had launched an attack on the Japanese northern Home Islands along with their invasion of Manchuria. After some extremely hard fighting the Japanese surrender, and the allied powers take up occupation zones as happened in Germany. Tensions between East and West gradually increase and as in Germany the Soviets move to set up a Soviet Socialist Republic in their Zone while the Western Allies set up a constitutional monarchy in their zones. Fast forward to the mid sixties and the Soviet Socialist Japanese Republic are flying Mig 21's. Easy  ;)

Two words.  Bunny Fighter.

Now I'm picturing anime bunny-girls flying MiGs.

But would the Democratic Republic of Japan allow such..."creative explorations"?

As long as they were good little socialists, why not. Splendid for the morale of the troops

Had some farther thoughts on this, in particular as to national insignia. Been toying with using the standard hinomaru, but superimposing a red star over it ? Maybe with some red side bars to it as well ? Could probably do this from combining some Japanese and Soviet standard markings from the stash.

No modelling today. Had my second Covid jab 3 weeks early  and as per the first one I'm feeling drowsy, so might be a tad dangerous to start playing with a scalpel or even a paint brush.

I do have to say how well this was all organised between the NHS staff and the volunteers. Both my first and second jabs were booked for 9:30am and I had both of them within a minute or two of the scheduled time. Just shows that we can occasionally organise things and get them done.

Bunny Fighter was a RW Mi\G 21 flown in the wars between Angola and the Congo.

How did Eduard come to 'adopt' it as one of their trademarks, or whatever it is that they use it for?
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Well I'll be. You couldn't make that up

True, most likely danger would be to knock a paint pot over which would lead to a desperate rush to try and prevent to much damage which would inevitably lead me to causing some minor injury to some part of my anatomy or another

Little bit of progress on all 3 current projects, not much as the real world intervened and will be doing so again this coming week.

You may well have noticed the Revell 1/72 Flitzer hovering in the background of some of the photoshoots ? Well this was meant to be a "quick, relaxing build", something to fill time, in between the two main builds, but it's turned out to be a bit of a struggle. It's not desperately bad, it's just that I think I have a "Monday morning" kit as the other one I have looks fine  :-\ Cockpit area has taken a fair bit of sorting out in order to get the canopy to fit reasonably well, but I think I'm there now. It's not a bad kit, it's just that I was expecting a "shake and bake" for some reason ? Still hopefully I can start getting some paint onto it this week.

From what I remember - the last one I did was over twenty years ago - it was never a shake and bake kit when it was new back in 1996 when it came out.  IIRC I did a Swiss one using Vampire decals as the first one.

Those Flitzers are not as simple as they look. You need to manage the tail build carefully or it will sit wonky.
The canopy is a pain too.

The wheels are horrid too. They're too thick if they sit in the wheel wells and just don't look German. I replaced them on mine with 190 wheels.
