Beagle B.206 Turbo Terrier II -- Finished
« on: February 02, 2009, 08:42:27 am »
Many years ago I built a Beagle Basset and added some SNEB pods to it and the idea has always stuck with me so I think I'll develop this further.

I'll start with the lovely little Airfix kit:

but then add a few things:

I haven't decided which wingtip tank to go with yet but it will be one of these two types:

Of course, piling all this on will make the aircraft seriously underpowered --- so this might be a solution to solve that:

Hi Robert

Wouldn't the gun pod from a hawk be better than a Harriers ?

Look forward to seeing this done especially with new engines

I've never even heard of this aircraft before, but it's a little beauty! I'll be watching this with interest. :)
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Well I did consider the Hawk pod but then I couldn't find the spare one I've got somewhere.  But then I went and had a look in the stash as I know I've got a few other Hawks there.  Here's a comparison of three I could use, at the top the Harrier pod, middle one the Hawk pod and the bottom one is from an AlphaJet, I might just go with the AlphaJet one.

While looking I found some better fuel tanks and bombs too.

Ye Gods. Thanks kitnut617 for jogging my memory.
I built a WHIF of the Basset kit many years ago giving it swept wings and tailplane. The engines were small high bypass turbofans that came, I think, from a small scale C-5 Galaxy kit that was on offer from Kellogs Corn Flakes!! They were mounted on top of the wing like the VFW-614.
Colours were grey/green top, light aircraft grey undersides, RAF.
The model is long gone to the great hanger in the sky, as had the memory of it until I saw this thread.
Thanks again.

Those Bassett kits go for a reasonable coin these days.  Looking forward to this one Robert, always thought the Basset was worth a whiff!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

In the first pic you see one of those coincidenses you find when you do a lot of kitbashing, the AlphaJet pod pratically falls on, I will have to see if anything needs changing later once the u/c gear is on.

A comparison in engine sizes in the second pic.  And the bashing starts in the third.

This is a cool build! When a major piece of hardware like the gunpod falls into place and fitting so well that it needs little or no putty, then you know the whiffing gods are smiling on your build.

Those rivets on the wing carry about a 20km/hr top speed penalty, though!

Yeah! studying photos on airliners.net you actually can't see any rivets.  They'll all be gone though, or just a hint of them if I'm careful with the sanding.

Sweet idea, and why the Hell not? The Swedes used to hang Bofors Bantam ATGMs under Bulldogs, after all.... Remember the aircraft that shoots up the mercs in The Wild Geese? Can't recall what it was, but it was a light twin-prop with MGs in the nose and a small napalm tank on the centreline, much in this vein.

The third lot of tanks you found are the right ones: they match the curve of the fuselage just right. What are the Astazous off? Are they 1/72nd scale?

Think the Wild Geese plane was a Cessna 310, haven't seen it in a few years though. Wish there were more GA aircraft kits available. Looking forward to seeing this one Kitnut, that Alphajet gun pod looks great. Where did you get the Astazous from?
