Ok, I was doing some thinking the other day - yeah I know a rare occurrence these days- but, I was thinking about making the Mk8 version into a night fighter. Redesign the nose for a radar nose, stick some missiles under the wings and voila...See what happens when i think????!!! :dum:    :dum:

Sounds completely feasible to me!

and I am sure that Canberras were used as testbeds for UK AAM projects - the references escape me at the moment...

Sorta gives the impression of a night fighter B.8, although the nose is that a Buc, rather than a fighter:

This is probably closer to an operational Canberra fighter radome:

You could also do a USAF testbed with a Bomarc radar nose and a couple of Eagle missiles underwing - not built (or even considered AFAIK!!) but would look plausible...

More like a USN testbed with, say, an F3D radome in the nose since the Eagle was a Navy missile (going by the drawings, you just need to add a booster stage to an AIM-54 to model an Eagle).

--- Quote --- That's not a bad idea to produce a workable Eagle!

Eagle was indeed a USN project, but the Air Force looked at the idea as well - they considered using C-135s as a launch platform. Which leads to a whole bunch of _other_ WI ideas as well :-)

I've seen drawings of some Grumman proposals for launch platforms for Eagle missiles - in addition to the supersonic XF12F proposal, there was a derivative of the Intruder and, for long duration patrols, a derivative of the E-2 airframe.  Lots of what-if possibilities there.
