Sovietized Banshee
« on: January 18, 2009, 07:37:22 pm »
I've got an Airfix 1/72 F2H Banshee that I think would be kinda cool with the soviet treatment. Not sure what the russian translation for Banshee would be, closest I could find was "Dukhi" (Ghost).

Aah, but you really need to come up with an ASCC reporting name. Should to be a two syllable name beginning with F, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a synonym for Banshee that starts with it.

Could be, or Fantasm. Of course, you know what opposing pilots would change that to...  ;D

Fantasmagorical???

Magical being begining with F? Fairy!  Not exactly scary (depending on your point of view...), but might suit some of the early ASCC names that were deliberately derogatory, fits in quite nicely with the Fagot (take that which ever way you want to!).
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

In similar vein, how about "Fetish"?

The original meaning of the word: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetishism
Neophyte: Is Eris true?
Malaclypse the Younger: Everything is true.
Neo: Even false things?
MtY: Even false things are true.
Neo: How can that be?
MtY: I don't know man, I didn't do it.

Weren't AASC reporting names supposed to be 2-syllable names?  At least that's what I thought.

Single syllable for props, two syllable for jets, although with helicopters it's either/or.  Apart from that, we're just messin'!

If I may suggest another Russian name for the Sovietized machine, try "Rusalka".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusalka

It is described as the Slavic equivalent of the Banshee, the spirit of a drowned woman or similar creature.

OK, I'm thinking Yak-29 for the designation still not sure of the name, have a few options, feeler, fishcake, freeload. And I also had fetish on my list, which I am leaning towards (weaver had that one too).

Another question for those of you who know way more about this stuff than i do. Since I went with Yak for my company would a K (naval) designation apply? I don't think so, but this stuff is confusing. I know that naval MiG's get a K designation  and I've seen it used on Sukoi aircraft but I've never seen anything like that attached to a Yak before. Would the K only apply if it had a non naval equivalent it was based on?
