Back when every country would send something to an airshow. And you could sit at the end of the runway to film the arrivals

That's a superb link Nick, that's so much for posting it.

The F-111 was particularly impressive, and I note the F-14s did 'carrier approaches' even though they were landing on land   ;D but the Firefly right at the end upstaged ALL of them!

Why did they call them 'Amazing' landings though? The aircraft approached, touched down and stopped. Pretty much normal landings really.
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

"A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again". Perhaps an "Amazing" landing is one where you don't get any scratches on anything?

Nice to see, thanks.

I wonder how much actual training time is devoted to learning to decipher exactly *what* is being said over the radio? I couldn't make out more than a general mumble most of the time...

And was it my imagination or did the Phantom drivers, in particular, really come down with a 'thump'? (Maybe they were told to get them down sharpish, or they'd have to pay for any extra fuel their thirsty beasts used... ;D )
