Tornado

Not at home but at work, just about to go home when a high-winged monoplane passed low overhead. At first I thought is was a DHC-2 Beaver but I realised it had twin fins. I thought it must have been a Broussard, indeed I got home checked my Jane's recognition guide and only the Broussard fits what I saw. It was a piston powered job too but I was indoors and didn't hear any engine noise.

Are there any/many Broussards on the British register? It was all-over white with red tailplanes.

At home tonight I heard a meaty piston fly overhead but I didn't have my glasses on and missed it.  <_<

there are one or two on the Uk register.
I always hope for the best.

experience has taught me to expect the worst.

About where do you live? Piston or jet? Colours? (black?) Bubble canopy?

If in europe, it might be the flieger revue airshow team "Black Yacks" with Yak-50/52

Probably these guys Lance, The Blades, they attended the Wings & Wheels show at Dunsfold, nearby you I think?  Orange/black on top, black undersides with white right wing. They're pretty popular at the moment as the pilots are all ex-Red Arrows.  Snapped these at the Yorkshire Airshow a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yep, that looks like the ones I saw Mossie. thanks for clearing up who they were.

Saw an Austrian Airlines Dash 8 circling over my part of town today.

I haven't seen one of those since I left Canada back in 2004. Almost forgot how beautiful and graceful they look.

I think there are a few left flying, as Beech pulled the plug on the Starship a few years ago, all the aircraft were recalled when the company ceased supporting the type.  A stubborn owner or two is keeping the type going IIRC.

The other possibility is that it was a Piaggio Avanti you saw, has a straight wing & T-tail compared to the tailess swept wing layout of the starship:

Not actually over my house, butwe were walking in the glorious sunshine around north Shropshire yesterday, constantly being buzzed by one or more 'Squirrels' from RAF Shawbury about ten or so miles south, whilst we were eating our picnic, a RN Sea King came over so near that Missy (my daughter) sat up to wave at it (that's my girl !).

Later-on I 'felt' a Chinook - nothing else it could have been - but didn't see it.

Quoteand one of those HM Coastguard twin prop's with some kind of SLAR canoe.
Yep I was talking to it earlier - It was monitoring the wreck of the bow-section of the MSC NAPOLI as it was being towed up to Belfast, checking for pollution. C/s Atlantic 21 (I think).
