What-If SIG meeting 2020?

Travel from a 2 or 3 to a 1 is verboten, but yes I think 2 to 2 is OK. 

That’s my reading but could do with an eye test.  Will pop up to Barnard Castle to see if all’s well.

Off home tomorrow morning from the 2 that becomes a 3 at midnight.  Next trip north in a fortnight from a 2 via a 2 to a 3.  Really will have to pay attention to the rules cos at the mo I’d be breaking the rules by going to the SIG meet (as Nick rightly pointed out).
Which is a 8ugger.  It also means I can’t head home via a model shop in Stoke  I’ve recently become aware of.
Ah well, must head to AJ’s at the weekend to part with cash before inside the M25 becomes a 3 and all non-essential shops are shut.

It would appear I spoke to soon.

I had an email late last night from the Cov & Warks club saying that due to more stringent rules the museum has been forced to put in place they are now shelving their social distanced club meetings untill further notice.
In short the numbers would have to be cut to six and we would need to make sure that no one came anyware near 2 meters from the next person. including entry and exiting the ed centre. Cov & warks have done the maths and it would make their meeting unviable cost wise.

Having double checked it would also impact us big time as the £100 quoted for the day split six ways is to much to expect from those attending on top of the standard museum entry fee.

So Its no longer a viable prospect for the SIG meet to go ahead.

It was a good idea while it lasted. But as they say we live in interesting times.

Disappointing news but not a surprise.  Still a good idea though and maybe in 2021?

Could I suggest as an alternative a "virtual meeting"?   That would mean there is no limit on attendance and no need for "social distancing"...

Maybe a meeting via Teams or Zoom? Than we can socialize (video on and microphone on) in an international setting as this is an internet forum, right??
Drawback: it's kinda heavy on data and therefor requires a strong wifi or data network.

I'm contemplating about a format on how all participant can show their whiffs and explain more on the build, colors, techniques used,.story etc.
Maybe first start in timeslots of about 5-8 minutes per participant to show your stuff and explain in general terms, then move on to the next participant. After this general showcase per participant, we can move on to the break out room phase (in Zoom there is the possibility to put some participants together, by a moderator). In this phase participants can get together with other participants of choice and ask more indepth questions and show details of the models in front of the camera. After some time, maybe 15 or 20 minutes, the break-out rooms are all ended and a news session of break-out rooms can start. Moderator asks per participant who would be in break out room with member A or Z and compiles  a new set of break-out rooms for anonther stint. This second phase of break-out rooms might take several go's for all participant to have "seen enough". If participants wish to continue, they can do them selves via Zoom, email or other means etc. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents, but it might be interesting to do an international internet meeting.

I'd be interested in Zoom or teams meeting if it goes ahead, just don't ask me to be a moderator as I'm fairly clueless and need to ask my personal assistant with such things (PA being my 13 year old son, unpaid of course)

We have been using Zoom for our club meetings every other Wednesday. It works best when one person acts as Chair and directs the flow of chatter as you can really only have one person talking at a time. With around 10 people at a time it can be tricky to work out who's talking.

The format is we sit at our workbench with Zoom running on our devices. Smartphones or laptop work well for this but some folk are flashy and have a separate camera  . Doing it over wifi is best for a cheap and stable connection.

We take it in turns to tell the others what we're working on. In turn they can ask questions about our work and discuss methods etc.
Chair will then talk about our monthly competition. We email our photos to him the week before, he puts them in an online gallery and we all vote on that via email.
Discussion of our beverages of choice does come into it...

Be careful, if you choose Zoom.  It is notorious for harvesting your data and then onselling to other interested parties.

As for refreshments, they will have to be provided by yourself, Kit.

I saw at lunchtime that Coventry moves into Zone 2 today or tomorrow as well. Personally I think we haven't got a snowflake's chance of returning to anything like normality until we have a working, reliable vaccine and a large portion of the UK population has received it. But then I always was a bit of a pessimist ; comes with being a Palace fan
