World aviation museum and gate guard map

(1/84) > >>

reddfoxx:
I think this is the appropriate forum to post this: I am working on a map of aviation museums and gate guards.  So far I have about 850 sites; I figure I have about half of the world's museums and 1/10th of the gate guards, so it will be a long project and probably never "done."  I include any museum with aviation artifacts, and there's a separate listing for other interesting sites such as memorials, factory tours, etc.  Please check it out and let me know what you think, and what I've missed.

You've got a job and a half on there!  :o

I know of a few gate guardians in the UK that you could add, I'll put a list together and post back on here.

Cool! I've been wanting something like this to spot the places near me in SW Oklahoma. In particular Altus AFB in Altus, Oklahoma. Oddly enough it seems to be a pain to look for any information on the internet about it. Usually, AFBs have some type of SOMETHING on display but I can't find anything for Altus AFB.

Also, Tinker AFB up in the Norman/OKC area. Pretty sure they have something going on but I don't remember what.

The only one I've actually been to that I can recall is the AF Armament Museum at Eglin down on the FL panhandle. That was a pretty neat thing all around.

One thing I'd like to mention is the Science Museum in OKC. It has an Aviation wing with some neat stuff including some big innards of an Awacs that you can fiddle with all the buttons and stuff on. (Actually, I don't know if they still have that.... they did 25 years ago, though.. lol  )

Here's some pics of some of the stuff at the Oklahoma Science Museum:

Thanks, guys!  I will add the OK stuff tomorrow (I am off to work now,) and eagerly await the UK gate guards.

The map is posted on my Facebook group, The International Aviation Museum Guide.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/365080863684050/

Shooooot yeah, dude! I'll join all three.  And glad I could help in some small way. Not a lot of folks know about the Science Museum having that aviation wing.  Or, it seems like not a lot know.. it's never popped up in any of my searching. Only reason I know about is that I've been there a few times back in grade school for field trips.

Look for me on FB if you'd like, Brad Myers.

Post Script:  I know an aircraft mechanic that works on the heavies at Altus AFB. I'll try to ask him what, if anything, they have there and get the info back to you.
