Interesting indeed - thanks.

The fact that the weight is greater than a turboprop of the same power, but the fuel economy is greater still, implies that the best application would be on a long-range aircraft where the ratio of fuel weight to empty weight is highest.

It's almost a shame that Whittle got his turbine ideas going with such an elegant thermodynamic device as the Nomad II around.  ;D
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It sounds as though a Nomad engined Shackleton would have been a sensible idea.

IIRC that was exactly what Avro proposed for the Shackleton 4, but maybe the Nimrod came along and kyboshed that idea.
