Unfortunately, i had broken something on the main body of the spaceship. So instead of printing & painting it again, i had to find a way to cover the damage. It seems to work now.

Several additions were made to the ship:

The details docking bay for the plasma cruisers. Also, the long range communication dish (the ship should travel a distance of 1.2 light years)

With a docked plasma cruiser.

Below the docking bay, there are the maneuver engines with their fuel tanks. Plus two observation cupolas.

Below of that, a number of blue cargo containers for the plasma cruiser can be seen. They are mounted externally to attach them easily to the plasma cruiser.

At the bottom, two landing shuttles / drop ships are mounted

Now several other smaller parts must be printed and added to the ship.

Asteroids, you have them in SciFi in multiple functions, as mining bases, research stations, habitats, weapons, endless options.

So here is my attempt to build a small asteroid research station, located in the Räb-System, the home of the Rebaners.

Step 1:
Find a 3D model and print it. This time with the FDM printer, it took about 8 hours to do so.

Step2:
As the printed one looks too artificial, the surface is too smooth, it has toe be made more natural. The option i choose was "bird-sand". The kind of sand you put in the floor of a bird cage. It is very fine but has some bigger whatever-they-are in it which looks ok as an asteroid or moon surface. Therefore the printed asteroid was covered with wood glue and then rolled into the sand.

Step3: Nor the surface is ok, but the color is not right. AS we know from the latest discoveries, the surface is pretty dark, so lets take the airbrush and work wit several gray tones for it.

The round "holes" are places were some bigger surface structures will be added. They will be made with the SLA printer as they have some finer structures.

Are you sure it wasn't used bird sand ?  ;)

Surely not!  Any right-minded person would pooh-pooh the idea.

Ok, Ok, I had to look it up. First, the bird sand is brand new out of the box..... :)

Bird sand is mainly quartz sand with peices of chalk (from shells) and often with anise. What I do not know is if my engieeer maybe has used it. But I guess i would have noticed that when adding it to the asteroid..... :)

Ah, yes, but (s)he is both a bear and an engineer &, therefore, has choices!

(And given some of the engineers I've known over the years "bird sand" ain't the worst of it! :-X)

My engineer is now confused about the bird sand and has to check if there is "something" "in" there.....

But it seems as if everything is ok.

And its good that you care about the engineer, they normally do not get the appreciation they deserve.  ;D
