............I've long liked the flat-bottomed version with the twin-engine nacelles.......

Yes that was quite a beast.  Very much cold war with throw away radar, extra landing gear, and some examples even with throw away engines.  Thanks for the comments.  The putty continues...

Landing gear work.  Had no idea it retracted until Kit mentioned it.

Bit fiddly, but interesting.  Almost as complex as the real Hustler

Gear swing testing.....

I like your pegboard Dave.

Cross connected the engines for better alignment and to make up the engine pylon and fairing.

thanks zenrat, the peg board is a bit eclectic!

The kit came out in the 1950's, so figure a few generations have taken a crack at it!

Have not worked on the nose gear yet- still on the sprue.

Fuselage glued, whew!  Lots of alignment required with the pins, nose gear, three canopies.....

Cockpits open and close.

Gear check!

Nose gear down and locked

Mid retraction.  Top of nose strut slides aft in a slot and rotates around a gear strut.  Very cleaver kit.

Gear up.

Whew! This paint job is killing me.  Half a roll of painters tape so far!  Several shades of natural metal and a few splashes of prototype glory.
