Hi all,
We've had stunning weather all year ( :P ) so I decided to go out to the airport yesterday and see what was happening. I took some photos and made a couple of videos:

Thank you folks! There was one downside - smart boy over here seemed to forget about the existence of sunscreen. So when I got home my wife took one look at me and said "When did I marry an Oompa Loompa?"!

The pilot was a Kiwi - I said to him "That's not the accent I expected!" He explained this is a former Helicopters (NZ) machine which he is flying to Christchurch today and landing on an icebreaker for the South Korean Antarctic mission. He brought through an identically-painted Squirrel a month ago - Whanganui is a popular fuel stop.

Tell her be thankful it wasn't a Certain Pumpkin-Coloured Buffoon...   ;) (though she obviously has more taste!)

Well, you did see it looking around in a most perplexed manner...  ;D

Great shots, Zac - nicely done and glad you had such a good day.

Looks like you had a great day.

Thanks for sharing.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

You would be surprised at what you see around an airport. When I worked at YYZ in Toronto, we would occasionally see aircraft from British Antarctic Surveys getting work done at Leavens Brothers Aviation. DeHavilland Canada was providing them with Twin Otters and Dash 8s, and before flying down, probably to the Tierra del Fuego area for a short hop, Leavens would be installing the extra equipment needed for the survey work. And if they needed maintenance on that stuff they would fly back up.

Thanks everyone for your kind words! It was a great day, I did pay for it with the sunburn but OW I maintain it was worth it! Then yesterday my favourite Cessna Bird Dog popped in for some fuel! What a week!

Nice shots of the Cessna, Zac - all the details a Modeller could want, huh!   ;)

The sand paper for grip on the foot step is a bit unexpected, but there again you use what works, right?
(Probably also cheaper to go to Mitre 10 for sand paper and Ados than ordering the same stuff from the Aviation Industries' Suppliers...)

I see also that 'Hangar Cat' approves of the machine... *rub* - Mine now!  ;D

That was Jen's (Paul's partner) idea. She looked at me, at him, and at the Bird Dog, and said "Do you think he'd mind?" And I said "no, he sits in and on planes all the time!"

Of course he does - they're straying into *his place*, after all... so of course they become *his* property also...
"Hey, that's mine - where are you going with it? Well! How rude! MINION!! Some snacks to calm my offended nerves, Immediately!"
