Rolls Royce Armoured Car - Western Desert 194something.

Nothing whiff about this.  Unless you want to get picky about the colours in the Caunter scheme.  But that just leads to the same old pointless arguments about the veracity of 70 year old colour photographs, identification of colours from B&W photos, monitor settings and just how the human eye and brain see colour.
I built the Roden kit OOB except for leaveing some parts off and slightly modifying the headlight brackets so the lights didn't foul the radiator doors.  While they are made separate I don't think they intended the rad doors to be posed open as they didn't mould any detail on the inside.

And here it is with the BA-3.  I used a different grey on the Royce.  It looks the same to the naked eye but the camera brings out the difference.  I only realised when I bothered to look at my notes.

It's the 1/35 Roden kit.  This is the 1920's pattern car with sand tyres and the WW2 upgrades (Boys rifle and AA mount for the commanders Lewis .  They do two other versions.  One WW1 and one 1920's.  It goes together OK although there could be more location marks and detail is a bit soft in places.  It does however have a full engine and interior (although it could do with some detail on the inside of the body panels).  I'd build another, but i'd rather have a go at the new Meng kit to see how it compares.

From memory, you scratch built the BA-3's turret, didn't you?

Either way, both great builds, Fred!

Note: I'm fairly sure my Meng R-R Armoured Car came sans engine (that's "kerbside" for car modellers, isn't it?).

Thanks.
Yes, I scratched up the BA-3 turret using the RR one as a pattern.
And I am also fairly sure the Meng it is a kerbside.

I like that, come out really well
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks Rick.

I think this is my favourite build of last year.  I'm going to put it into a diorama with the BA-3 and a dinosaur (hopefully by Expo in June).  I've been collecting figures from which I hope to put together a mismatched group of adventurers like something out of a "Boy's Own" story.

Y'know, somehow I'm not surprised...  ;)

That will be cool to see, you have piqued my interest - carry on, sir!

Very nice, both of them. But I really like the BA-3 whif, very subtle - looks very natural.

These are  marvellous Fred, fascinating subjects  early  armoured cars, and they look so fragile  compared to today's stuff.

Thanks folks.

Chris - the 1914 pattern Rolls Royces look even more fragile because they have skinny spoked wheels.  But these certainly don't look like they could cope with too many miles on a rough road.
