What's new in the construction of the mortar on E-50 chassis modelcollect. The construction went pretty well, only the tracks did a little more work. When painting I want to make it like Adam Wilder with his 17 cm Tiger Grille.

The detail on 1/72 armour has improved immensely since my day (the '70's), I must say.

Pity I can't see it unaided these days. :-\

I know exactly what you mean on both points.

Lovely stuff "Chaos"
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Modelcollect kits go together really well. The PE parts can be fiddly and the instructions for the tracks are vague hints, at best, but the results are quite spectacular. Looking forward to the paint job - I did something similar with a kitbashed tank some time ago, faded Dunkelgelb on top of a coat of red primer:

I think it needs a bigger gun.  ;D ;D ;) ;)

That's HUGE, what size is it?  :o

Ah, sorry. Not being a 'tank person' I didn't realise that was the bore of the gun.

Hm, 305 mm........... divide by 25.4 = 12 INCHES! That's a foot wide!  :o :o :o

It is a mortar, as opposed to a gun/howitzer, though. ;)

Do you mean some poor sap has to stand outside and drop the mortar bomb down the barrel, and then duck out of the way when it fires???  :o :o

I hope he's a) VERY strong as it'll weigh TONS and b) he has some VERY good ear defenders!

Gondor

I think that the word Mortar is used to describe how the weapon is used as opposed to how it is loaded. Up and over trajectory such as a couple of streets or a city block or two away rather than a long range device.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

IIRC, it should be a 38cm mortar?  :o That's at least the caliber of the weapon that was used in the Sturmtiger? Or is it a personal mod (it's whifworld, after all)?

The Chaos

Update.
First Cipping and painting.

and yet it is the 38cm Sturmmortar, a wary big Rocket gun.

Breech-loaded mortar, Kit.

Very generally: A mortar, in military terms, is a barreled weapon that fires a very low velocity projectile at a high angle over short distances.
