thanks guys
I made a start on the bottom half of the bridge section last night and opened up 3 ports to which i have run some more piping out from. Granted it's not exactly movie accurate, but its equally as interesting I think

Who cares about "movie accurate"? .................................. Apart from the Star Wars JMN clique, obviously.

It's looking awesome, that's all that counts!

Lovely greeblification work there!

Just seen in AMW that there's a Czech company called Greestrawberry who are doing resin and brass detailing bits for these, including the fiddly flaps that the studio models had around the edge of the engine bells: https://greenstrawberry.cz/star-wars-17?page=1&resultsPerPage=36

thanks Weaver :) I have seen their offerings and they are very nice. They seem to have dropped one of their etched detail frames from the line up though. It was the one frame I thought would be very handy and I probably should have bought them when I had the chance. Oh well.
I am in 2 minds over etched parts - they look great on planes and armour but at the same time, I find them to be a bit too flat and look just stuck on as opposed to being integrated with the ship. I think that's why I've steered clear of them.
I did entertain the paddle thingies but I'm cheap and would prefer to fashion some myself out of styrene if I wanted them.

LOL - I just said how flat the all looked and I still just bought the hangar set - mostly for the small hangar up front

We've all done that  ;D

When I got back into the hobby I thought etch was compulsory  :banghead:  Now I'll use seatbelts and a few other cockpit bits, Yahu's instrument panels for example, but that's it.

yeah, people seem to think a kit is not going to be it's best without some form of after market resin or PE item to enhance it. I came to the conclusion many years ago that they are most certainly not an essential item to have. Granted some things do look better than a kit supplied cockpit for example, but other than that, I can live without it.
Things like the hangar bay are one of those items that actually would be of benefit - I hope! I also think lighting will be much easier with PE too. Time will tell aye
Once I get back from Bogan Island (AKA Bali) I'll hopefully have it in my possession and will put it together

Hey guys

Thought I would show you where I am up to on this before I go on a well deserved holiday for a few weeks.

I've only really just started but it's not a race. I probably won't take any more pics now until the bridge is finished

Hopefully the cutting board will help some of you convey a sense of scale as well

The first set of pics are the walls for the bays underneath which are present on the filming models. I thought that was a cool feature so I did the same, except I opened up another one that wasn't there. All for my own personal tastes

Well, that's me done, but if you have any questions or comments or critique, I am always open to it

As always, thanks for looking in

Si

hi guys

It's been a while since I last updated this thread, so time to do so. I have finished detailing the bridge and am about ready to start adding the fiber optic threads and then get it all sealed up.

The main hangar bay has also been started. I have used a mix of Green Strawberry PE and Falcon resin parts as well as some strip styrene here and there, with more to go in due course. The front hangar bay is the GS PE set and looks good. It's all lit, painted and ready to install

So, less talking and more pics I say

Starting with the hangar bays:

I will try to meld the TIE fighter bay to the Falcon hangar section but it may not work do well. If not, I will need to scratch build it. I had a heck of a time mounting the SMD's as the wires kept coming off. They are not the best quality SMD's I think

Lastly, the bridge detailing is all but done. I won't be adding anything further to it. Once the paint goes on, it'll look much better and not so busy

Well, that's all the pics I have for now. I am about to start on the neck area and garbage chute etc. I won't add too much detail here....well, maybe a little but not too much

Feel free to comment, critique or suggest

Thanks for stopping in and looking

Till next time

Si

Good to see a couple of Carley floats on the rear of the bridge, sufficient life-support craft when having to abandon ship is very important!
