seeing the Heller P-51D kit in the toy shop I was unable to resist... I started this kit in the 1990s but never finished it, and it was lost in 1999 when I changed home alas. Si I bought it again, yes.
Now the new project of mine is a Mustang with a Y-tail !
Buying toys for my son's birthday (9 years old) I was unable again to resist, and I bought another Heller 1/72 P-51D...
This time the project of mine is a T-tail and having both canopies side by side on the nose!

As drawing, here is the new project I have:

That has a certain hint of the Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster to it.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Thanks Doctor! (This means I am not crazy nor technically lunatic!)

T-tail!!!!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah buddy. Now we're talking!!

Twin canopies and mid-engine (or rear depending upon semantics).   This is great.

Thanks!
Here is the start (with the tailplane fixed with adhesive tape, just to show).

I consider cutting the external part of the wings and installing them between the wing and the tailplane, rear of the canopy <_<

With 1/144 canopies on the 1/72 model, installing 2 canopies on a single nose would be easy, like a XB-42 look.
But with all 1/72, there is not enough room... I think I will remove the blades from the propeller and will make a flat nose somehow. With jets at wingtips?

I like all of this  <_<

Another approach might be to widen the forward fuselage to accommodate both cockpits, and then cut the fuselage behind the original cockpit and use a single boom like the Arado 232 or such?

Whichever way you go will be fun

Tophe

Thanks for this idea, that I will have to consider.

I forgot one thing: removing the piston exhausts on the jet version without propeller, while - uh... - I may let them this way in a motorjet layout (like Campini N1, MiG I-250)...

I continue:
- the blades are removed and the spinner is now the basis for a flat nose
- I have lost one of the piston exhaust sets, so I will remove them
- putty is replacing the old cockpit

NARSES2

Now that's interesting Tophe. Is it going to be called the "Kermit Kraft"  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Tophe

PSR is no fun... :-\ but the shape is improving, not far from acceptable (according to my standards).
But you are right, the nose looks like a frog mouse somehow, and as I am of the French men that you call Froggies in England... ;)
