Hi all,
I've been working on this one for a while, inspired by the then-imminent National Championship Air Races at Reno and a restoration project I've been following closely. I hope to get some paint on tomorrow but may not be able to share any photos until next weekend. I'm also almost done with the backstory, so consider this a placeholder

Am I teasing? Yes, but only because it's got me so excited! I hope everyone likes it when the Big Reveal takes place.

So what is exciting about a DeHavilland Hornet racer, OK everything!
Alle kunst ist umsunst wenn ein engel auf das zundloch brunzt!!

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

Yes, not a Hornet.  Obviously a Merlin Beaufighter... ;D

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Wasn't there somebody who wanted to build/restore a Whirlwind?

RAFF-35

Imagine a Bugatti 100p with two merlins crammed into it  ;D
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

There is a 1:1 Whirlwind project ongoing. Add Merlins and I think it would be fast! Now that's an idea...

Something tells me the Beau wouldn't be so suited to speed - it just looks so much more bulky.

A Mossie racer ?
Winner! If I'd put "DH" in the subject heading we'd probably have gotten there quicker.

Sadly "a bit of paint" was underestimating things. Plus there's the whole "learn how to make your own vac canopy" deal to cope with. It may be a bit longer ;)

Mossie racer with a prone pilot, flying from the bomb aimer's area - avoid the canopy issue

Also add a lower and more streamlined canopy and some race paint, and that's it.

I still think a Hornet would have a better chance at Reno than a Mossie.

With all the talk of the new flyer down there it's no wonder you've got Mossie on the brain

That's what the trigger was :) I started the model the week before Reno, too.

Yes, a Hornet would have a better chance but I didn't have one of them lying around!

Good news: clear styrene and more paint is on the way! Bad news: ETA is Monday. Hopefully she'll be ready for rollout next weekend.
