As the title suggests, the plan is to build a beaufighter based flying boat. I'm thinking that it would appear around 1942/43 and would be used as a sub hunter/fleet escort, SAR, reconnaissance and even as a standard heavy fighter out over the Pacific and far eastern theatres. It's main offensive weapons could be delivered from underwing rails in a similar, but scaled down version of the short sunderlands system. SAR duties could also be performed through these side doors. Now to think of a name for it..... The Bristol Beaufloater? Boatfighter? Beaumaris? I don't know, any suggestions will as always be welcomed  ;D
Thanks,

Guy

I shall add some photos of today's progress which should hopefully start to illustrate my design  the kits used are an Airfix 1:72 beaufighter mk.X and an old Airfix Grumman widgeon that was going dirt cheap on eBay

That's some serious, and innovative, plastic surgery going on there.

The gull wing looks very good.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Why thank you  the gull wing is kinda necessary in order to keep the props out of the water ;D

I never dared to think of the Beaufighter : I wish you success!

any aircraft can be improved by fitting floats, or a hull

Oh wow......great idea.......really like this.......any guns.....?  Gotta have at least 2x 20mm......for strafing subs n stuff and the odd flying target.....?  Obviously not where they normally go.....one on either side of pilot upper nose....?  Shoulder/wing root.......?

You've plucked some ideas right from my mind there ;D I was thinking to have two 20mm's in each outer wing, one either side of the pilot and I was going to have a moving turret with extra guns in it but I didn't have anything in the stash unfortunately  :-\

You will need to enlarge the vertical stabilizer. May I suggest a fin fillet?
This is going to be weirdly wonderful!
