what a lovely company they must be..

although frankly I'm sure Airfix could have sold them at 2.99 themselves, or is there some trading regulation that stops them doing that ?

Basically, get what you can now as it won't be there much longer. In fact, what's left is probably the dregs as quite a few stores have had the last stock.  I'm sure that we could arrange some hostage swaps at some stage for the UK contingent.

On a similar note, apparently ALDI have got some Airfix starter sets in again at 4.99.

I'm seeing 'dregs' stock more than anything else now (did four more yesterday: got nothing). 'Dregs' seems to be fountains, LCVPs, 32nd scale figures, sailing ships, Red Arrows Hawks and Vampires. Some stores have various Spitfires as well, but none of the 'rare' Mk.I/IIs.

Today arrived what will probably be the last of my aircraft purchases for a while. Special Hobby Mirage F.1B/BE. This like my other Mirage F.1's will part of the Honduras airforce, and be an operational trainer. The kit is very nicely molded, and looks to be nice to build, which makes a change after building Ace, Amodel and Modelsvit kits for so long. it doesn't appear to have an IFR probe though so I will have to remedy that.

I've seen a couple of builds of the F1 in a few mags and they all say it's a good build. Apparently the IFR probe is in some boxings.

Having finally found the Hereford HB, all they had was a solitary Vampire......but it's mine now, and may possibly become a Tweed Vampire......or" Republica Libra"  out of Gavin Lyall's novel Shooting Script.........but then I'd need a B25 Mitchell and a net full of bricks  too.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

One of the best aviation novels ever to my mind.

But aren't the Vampires in the book single seaters? You'd need two nets full of bricks too, and a guy with a BAR in the nose of the B-25.
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Cheers Chris, I have 2 old Hasegawa kits in the stash and a built Revell one, all have IFR probes, I wonder if there is a resin or white metal one out there, I know there probes for skyhawks, as i have a few, but not seen and Mirage or Rafale ones.

You are of course completely correct, Kit, and  in every  detail; but it's more a matter of what's already  in my stash and what I can afford.   I agree that the book's one of his best although his "Most Dangerous Game"  is almost as good.

If anyone starts going all JMN on me, I'll have to say that I'm working from Gavin Lyall's first draft and not the final published edition.  I'm sure that you appreciate my financial constraints!!

I've always liked Gavin Lyall's 'Major Maxim' series too, and my fave of that lot is 'Uncle Target' which features a wrecked Lynx helicopter and a futuristic tank that has a liquid propellant powered main gun, both of which are stranded in the Sinai desert of all places........

I think that we are agreed that any of Gavin Lyall's books is worth a look. I'd like to see someone have a go at the  "Champion"  tank  from Uncle Target .

My latest haul from Home Bargains

All Airfix 1/72

1 x Spitfire Mk 22
4 x Spitfire Mk IX
1 x Messerschmitt Me109 E-4/7
1 x Focke-Wulf Fw190A-8 Gift set

There were several Gloster Gladiator kits available, both versions, as well as several more Messerschmitt Me109 E-4/7 kits as well but I took home all of the Spitfires I could find.

Don't do floaty things but this was too good to miss out on. From an on-line auction (not ebay) 65* got me....

a 1/72 Revell Flower Class Corvette Platinum edition still sealed
a 1/72 Revell Deutsches Schnellboot S-100 with Flak 38 sealed
a 1/72 Revell Deutsches Schnellboot S-100 (non Flak version box open but parts still sealed
a 1/72 Airfix S-Boat box open but parts still sealed
and a part built 1/23rd scale Posto di combattimento (!) a wood and brass kit of two galley gun ports. By part built the outer 'frame' and external planking has been done the rest is still boxed. Looks to complicated for me !

(* plus 25 postage! Ouch!)

I'll keep the first two though when I'll get around to them nobody knows the rest ebay probably.
