QuoteBoeing Model 908-909 was the favorite, with the General Dynamics Model 401 and the Northrop Model P-600 being rated as close seconds. The Vought and Lockheed design was deem unsuitable and eliminated.

Boeing 908-909: is it just me or does the nose look like the Angel interceptor from Captain Scarlet? Looks a bit narrow for a radar...

Thanks to Elider for the scan...

Vought's  V-1100 design;

Looking at the first two designs, it almost seems like a ventral intake was mandatory, but in fact GD studied a vast number of configurations before settling on the F-16 layout.

Later I will post a vast amount of these models- stay tuned ;)

Hmmm ... I'm still not sure about this Mock-up as being the Boeing LWF-contender because the picture I know so far looks quite different !

My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Nope your right it does look like a Angel Interceptor !!!. It does make you wonder sometimes where Jerry Andersons model makers got their inspiration from as they often reflect the advanced designs for the period.

The Vought one looks interesting but i think larger ones would be needed before taking a knife to a Crusader or Corsair.

Deino- its almost the same design, with minor differences. This is the mockup, not a model, and it has wingtip Sidewinders, etc, but its the same design. It also says "Boeing" on the tail ;)

Could this be the aircraft Elmayerle is referring to?

What happens to all these cool mockups after the firms are finished with them?

Nope, that's not the Northrop P610 I was referring to.  That design had a planform almost indentical to that of the as-built YF-17 but had a single F100 engine.  The one time I got a look at a three view, there were some differences in the inlet, though.

You know, I didn't see it at first.  I had to find a picture of the Angel Interceptor to refresh my memory.  Luckily, I knew of someone who had built one:

Here is a clearer drawing of V-1100, but still not enough to tackle a model!

Elider, thanks for the pics you've sent so far I will process them and post tonight if I can. Do you have a higher res copy of the V-1100 scan? If so forward it and I'll make and post a clearer copy.
