In 1/72 a LGOC Type B bus in civvy and Ole Bill bus versions.

Also a Vomag 8 LR Lkw truck to add to the bus and mobile flak models already out.

Its too much to hope the Packard is in 1/25.  It'd make an awesome lowrider or leadsled.

From Roden, yes, but I'm a big believer that there should be more crossover kits in 1/24-1/25.  It's been in 1/35 for a while, civvy subjects with some decals and a few extras that can be dressed up as a military kit.  That way you've got the option of either in a diorama.  I'm sure something like the Packard would sell well in the bigger scale.  Hopefully if the Roden kit sells well it might pique someones interest, like Moebius.

I like the look of that. I've built a few 1/72 WWI Heavies for a mate of mine who was researching his grandad's time in the RGA during WW!. Be nice to go up a size.

I've always thought the C-133 looks like a big Herc.  Which makes me think, why not shorten it for a C-130 competitor?

That's 'cos it IS like a big Herc.  ;D

Sounds a great idea too.

I imagine if the T-34 turbo-prop had proved more reliable Douglas may well have tried to do just that in the RW.

C-133
Maximum speed: 359.03 mph
Maiden flight: Apr 23, 1956
Length: 154' 3"
Wingspan: 179' 9"
Introduced: August 1957

C-130
Maximum speed: 368.22 mph
Maiden flight: Aug 23, 1954
Length: 97' 9"
Wingspan: 132' 7"
Introduced: Dec 1956

The wingspan is one clue as to why a shortened C-133 wouldn't be a C-130 competitor,
as it was designed to different requirement and the wing wasn't designed for short
field operations.

Agreed on the Herc thinking. I want to do one as an early, in service variant, and another as a modern J type. Come to think of it, I may have 2 72nd scale VAC versions already ! #hoarder

I've got a Gene Hooker C-133 in the stash, the C-133 is as big as the A400M or Short Belfast

Much though I hate to suggest it, a shortened C-133 to compete with the Herk would surely have shortened wings?

[I can't believe I just wrote that.... :o]

That's the one I have as well Robert, but I'm pretty sure I bought the Roberts Combat Models or whatever they were called one as well. It was shortly after my crash. I bought a lot of stuff and did a lot of stuff  in that period which I don't recall.  :banghead:

It would require more than shortening the wings, it'd
need a major redesign to the wing to be able to
fulfill the shirt field requirements. Anyhow it postdates
the C-130 competition, which Douglas had entered
with a four engine design, evidently little is known
about it, and lost to Lockheed, who were awarded the
contract in 1951.

Anyhow the C-130 is a tactical airlifter, the C-133 was
a strategic airlifter.

Nonononon, you're misunderstanding the whole idea Jon.

Mossie's idea was that Douglas proposed a smaller 4 engine freighter in competition with the C-130, and postulated that it might LOOK like a smaller C-133.
