so since the rules say that it must be a whiff either of your own invention or a real project that failed to get built or enter service i can do the Graf Zeppelin  ;D

been looking for a reason to do a ship for a long time............only ever done one before and that wasnt the most successful

makes life easy for me........did plan on a battle-carrier but things have conspired against me and i wasnt going to join in on the GB but this is just a whiff-in-a-box.....................just need to work out how to build the darn thing!

I am glad you are doing this. I have heard that the kit is crude, but GO FOR IT! Though I am fully aware of the real Graf Zeppelin's shortcomings as an aircraft carrier, the *THOUGHT* of a German carrier on the high seas has always excited me. I "whiffed" an even better GZ in my "Furashita's Fleet" ("cleaned" it up aerodynamically, changed armament, etc) and in a game I played it was a "star" performer, hitting the Panama Canal, going 'Round the Horn to the Pacific to join up with the Japanese etc.  See:

if you are interested.

I'll certainly be watching this one!!

thanks for that...i will have a read of that later

as for the kit being crude, i really cant say cos i have very little experience of doing ships.............only other one i have done was airfix's hms fearless and at first glance this is streets ahead of that!!...........but we shall see

Welcome aboard, yes the Graf Zeppelin is quite valid for the GB as it never did enter service, its also a prime candidate for whiffing.

Cheers

slow progress today...........not had much time to tickle the styrene  ;D

hull halves glued together..............keel filled and sanded

my hat gets tipped to however works in this scale.............i have trouble with 1/72 at times!

heres the Me109's  :o

now i have had a proper look at whats in the box i can certainly say its far better than the only other ship that i have built (airfix).......some tiny short shot on a couple of the stukas but that will get hidden anyway cos im planning on folding the wings on a couple....virtually no flash............i think the hardest thing is going to be painting it

Hope your hat doesn't fall off when I tell you my current ship whif project is 1/2000 (Ship GB thread).

At 1/720 scale it may not be worth it to "rectify", but the Bf-109T's slated for the Graf Zeppelin had extended wings with squared tips. If you send me that sprue of 109's, I can return them with the "Traeger" wings for you. maybe two with their wings folded, too!

lol.....thanks but im already buggering about with the 109's and stukas..........im not too bothered about the wings being 'right', thanks

its weird......i will happily scratch 1/24 dizzy's and make plug boots out of single lengths of usb insulation (and fit them to 28ga wire plug leads!)  but this is a new world to me.....think its just cos i have never seriously done a ship before......couldnt work in 1/2000...that would do my swede in  ;D

ive been thinking about colour scheme for this..............cant decide what to do to it, 2 tone grey i think...........and im really not sure how im going to do that black cheat line on the hull ..........not got any tamiya tape at the mo so might have to improvise

WEM have wound down their Resin Airstrike range but you can get the Skywave Luftwaffe sets that might fit the bill:-

https://www.whiteensignmodels.com/c/1700+Aircraft+Sets/81/1/

Check on ebay re tape as you can get fine roles down to a milimeter and less so you can do a black waterline mask it and then spray the hull red and then hull greys

Nice project!

I've got some 0.5mm masking tape from ebay: good for doing the canopy frames on 1/800th Tomcats.... ;D
