I received this from JayBee two weeks ago, not long after he answered my want-ad plea for a copy of the Matchbox Tempest kit.
Thanks again, Jim!
I intended to start on it last weekend, but had to make repairs to the backyard fence a priority instead.

Here's the parts as I started assembly; fit is really pretty good, but there was some shrinkage in the thicker parts of the wings. Tamiya's standard putty to the rescue.

Here's the airframe all together. How did we build Matchbox kits in the days before Mr. Surfacer??
It certainly makes them a lot more fun now; a big splash along the seams, wipe the excess off with a cotton bud and lacquer thinner.
Boom, done!

Into the paintbooth - an overall coat of Sky Grey primer, then glorious Sky.

Hmm? Intriguing! I await more.

Add prop, spinner, and a gloss coat...

A few feet of kabuki tape, and then application of that concoction known to the Brits as "Edsg"...

Then the big reveal - how was my tape-work??

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Quick work Tony, and looking good
I wish I could paint like that.

 Gorgeous! I love FAA colors.

I reather liked the Matchbox kits. Sure the panel lines were a little "gouge"-y, but I liked the sturdy feel, and they covered a lot of aircraft subjects not done, or poorly done, by others.

Not to be picky, but wasn't a "Sea Tempest" already in FAA inventory as the "Sea Fury" (but with a radial instead)?
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

The Sea Fury evolved from the Tempest; there never was a Sea Tempest, which is the point of the exercise.

Wow.....that is gorgeous. Love how quickly and smooth this has come along. Great work, Tony !

Exactly!

Now, where are you putting the wing-folds?  ;)

Actually, just do another one with folded wings! :P

In truth, I regret not folding the wings, but I want to get this done ASAP.

At first you think 'That's a Sabre engined Sea Fury', then you look again and think 'Hm, maybe not.....'
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
