I think that this thread is absolute marvel for us: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,275.0/highlight,misidentification.html

In fact I found some of these, early 80s, drawings quite interesting and attractive too.

You could also include the 'F-19' along with the Dragon 'Russian Attack Helo' that was supposed to be an Mi-28.  The helo was based on the rather dodgy drawings that the DoD loved to release.  There was also the 'Su-19', that turned out to be the Su-24.

Not to mention the infamous Italeri Mi-28 based on the DoD's "box turret" artwork and their tandem-seat Hokum (both of which I've got)...

Hey ysi_maniac, for me personally, I loved this RAM-J / Su-25 concept as a kid!!
It looked typically Soviet purposeful as a war machine! I even liked the concept and reason behind the then radically wing-mounted engine arrangement!!

Although as years have gone by, this engine arrangement proved not to be so strange or radical as seen by the

Cessna's AX (A-10 Thunderbolt II) design submission to AX SPO Request for Proposal (RFP) and the Aermacchi MB.342 COIN design's

Ironically, as these things often turn out. The actual RAM-J / Su-25 was to have more in common with the AX losing design - the Northrop YA-9 design!

P.S I would love to see and have this as an actual model or even see it in 'What If' profiles, in the colours and markings of those actual contries that used the Su-25 'Frogfoot'!!!!!

Was it ESCI who brought out a 1/72 Ka34.....that turned out to be the Ka50....? If I remember the box art was (nearly?) the same as an artist impression that was released...

Think you might be right there Hank.  I remember the kit when I bought it back in the day.  I think it was even a single-seater.

Its not just artist impression, the Airfix 1/600 scale HMS Amazon is based on the manufacturers model rather than the real ship, so some of the features of the kit are wrong (Rounded bridge rather than angled, superstructure with slightly different shapes and overlarge pennant numbers which have never been corrected despite numerous re-issues  :banghead:)

Mav.....it was a tandem model.....very sharklike I think....all smooth engine casings...thing looked fast....!!! I got one part built somewhere....just can't find it....think it had a rocket pod, some square/boxy type launcher and an AAM on the wingtip on each wing....

There's a lot of models around like that Geoff. Where the kit was based on manufacturers initial press release, photos, artists impressions or prototypes. Not sure if they should be classed as Wifs or not as when produced they were "real" ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

First kits of Fulcrum (Esci's, Fujimi's) were too short, because of wrong estimation of dimensions.

I have an old Bill Gunston book from the 80's before the world got to see the Su-27 and MiG-29 for real that has those drawings (in fact I bought that book because of the inaccurate drawings!).  I've been wanting to build a model of the fake -29 since.  I think I can use bits from the front end of a Su-15 and Yak-25 canopy, and the tail end and intakes of an F-18.  I'm not sure about the wings, though I'm sure I've seen another plan with the same shape of wings but I can't for the life of me remember from where.

May I suggest MiG-25 or MiG-31 but 1/100, if your intended scale is 1/72, or 1/72 if your scale is 1/48?
Then scratch for LERX.
