After seeing this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M38_Wolfhound I knew I wanted one. After making plans for a 2012 game set in Africa I knew I wanted 3  ;D

As my standard, these will be bits of wargaming kit, so turrets have magnets imbedded and they are based. Also, I work alot with second handjunk kits so some need considerable work to clean up. But I find it fun to be as cheap as possible

At the moment I went from this:

to this:

Keep the gun this length or cut it down a bit? Canvas cover will be added to the mantlet, not sure if it needs any more additions. But feel free to point em out.

I like the idea and we have an African Group Build coming up some time.

I think if you keep the gun that length you might need to add a little counterweight to the rear of the turret ala Sherman M-50.

Hmm, I have a few packs of Sherman stowage boxes....I could cut the Chaffee one off, add a section to represent the counterweight and add the stowage box to that. Or vice versa.

Wish I'd thought of that: got all the bits for it too!

I think the gun barrel is fine: look at a Panhard ERC-90 armoured car.

I keep looking at this and I really like it, and it does have a look of the Panhard ERC too. I would like to do something similar involving a scorpion  turret and if they are available, a 1/72nd scale Saladin hull

I can mock that up for you and post a photo, but not today. Having tried it, I can tell you that, IMHO, the little Scorpion turret looks lost on the Saladin hull, and they're both 1/76th too! The turret from the Ace 1/72nd Scorpion might look better on the 1/76th Saladin hull, but that's a £12 kit.....

Basically right.  I'd suggest a stowage box on the turret rear.  You can say its a counterweight if anybody asks (a few tens of kilograms of lead in the bottom would be more than likely sufficient).

Cheers for that H,
It is not needed, as there isn't a 1/72nd scale one so I won't be building one, shame really as Honduras actually used Saladins.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Need to order an additional barrel. I dryfitted the M4 stowage boxes and they fit nicely, might go along with just those and skip the counterweight as it is a bit heftier then the now removed stowage box. I'll add the stowage box and then put them aside till the barrel arrives.

Chris.

Scaleorama? 1/72nd is only 6% different from 1/76th, so a 1/76th Saladin would still be bigger than say, a 1/72nd Ferret or AML-90. "Just" need to change any details that leap out at you, like undersized machine-guns or really, really tight hatches.
