Hi folks,

Thread for Welsh Models kit news.

I'll start off with some that I am excited about - they have a 1/72 De Havilland Comet 4C/C4 coming out this year

I already have plans for this!

Regards,

Greg

I wonder if someone will make a Nimrod conversion kit for it

Why not start with an Airfix Nimrod and convert it backwards? It already has a bomb-bay and BIG engines. Mine is sitting on the bench right now with similar ideas hovering above it.....  ;D

And as for Welsh Models being a 'they', that caused guffaws of laughter here.  ;D

Welsh Models is a one man band, Densil Wade, and he is SOME modeller! All his masters are made in a tiny room that looks more like a broom cupboard than an ex-bedroom!

You could do one of the RAE versions such as the one used to test the AEW3 nose !!

BTW on the Welshmodels news page he also says he is doing the RAF version as well as the BOAC airliner. So thats nice Transport Command colours and from a whiffing point you could always add hose & drogue to turn into a Tanker version ;)

Nah, I prefer to work forwards, rather than backwards and I want something that preserves that classic Comet nose and windscreen shape.  Perhaps I'll give it Vickers Wellesley-like panniers and spats...

Its DeHavilland not Vickers, so does that mean your going to do it twin boom  ;) - That would actually look quite impressive with boom's !!!

Stop reading my mind - I am looking to do one up in a diorama with the Comet taking the place of a RAAF 707 tanker.

Just got to find appropriate decals and tanker conversion for a 707 - any ideas?

There several for the RAAF 707s around.  Hawkeye does one downunder

Of course, I am still wondering whether to also give it a refuelling boom so as to refuel the whiff fighters in the diorama...

I can't find a separate KC-135 boom.  You would either need to cannibalise it from one of the injection moulded kits or scratch build it, mate.  The KC-10 one which might be able to get from Rug Rats is rather different compared to the KC-135 one.  I'd just go with a triple drogue setup.  It would be more likely, unless you're looking at a USAF version?

No, am definitely looking at RAAF version. Tossing up on whether to have just the hoses or perhaps a scratch built central boom + two wing mounted hoses.  Decisions, decisions...
