plus a change?

I can't recall where, but I'm sure I've read that Adam Tooby intended this new piece as a tribute to that Matchbox box.
I find it very hard to believe Academy would make a mistake like that he said sarcastically...

The Works are currently selling the Haynes 'Manual' for the Buccaneer (and a bunch of other Haynes stuff) for 6, which is a lot better than the 25 they normally cost. I've just bought it and it's a pretty decent reference.

I'll keep a look out for that.

When I last went in there they had tons of Haynes manuals, but not the Buccaneer.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Nor did Hereford branch when I heard about it, but I ordered it click & collect from their website and it was in branch waiting for me in 4 days.

I'll probably get the sharkmouth Typhoon boxing as a real world build. Thoroughly enjoyed the two other Airfix Typhoon's I've built. Besides it's one of my favourite aircraft.

I wonder if it would be worth Airfix to pop over to the NMUSAF museum, LIDAR the YF-23 there, and produce an accurate kit of the blasted thing?

Good question: How many people would buy a (probably expensive) modern, accurate tooling of a YF-23 rather than buy a cheap (once the accurate one came out) but inaccurate kit they could "rectify"?

Pretty high-risk a model manufacturer now, given the YF-23 is a relatively obscure subject & never entered even limited production.

Im afraid you are right. Not many other than us whiffers. Plus there would be extensive modifications to make the proposed production model anyway if thats what you want to whiff. Wait a while for Northrup and the Japanese to work out their new stealth fighter. Rumor has it it will look a lot like a YF-23.

Not actually to do with new Airfix kit announcements, but of connected interest.

While I was at the Car Show y'day who did I run into but Trevor Snowden, lately the head product planning honcho at Airfix-Humbrol. It seems he drives a Morgan so was pursuing another interest, just like me.  ;D

We had a lengthy and very interesting chat about where Airfix had been and was going, and he was of the same opinion as me, in that the 1/24 Hellcat was NOT going to be the saviour of the company as they seem to think. He reckoned a Corsair would have made much more sense, being able to be done in many more schemes and would have been modifiable into other versions. He was pleased to hear my thoughts on how good the current generation of Airfix stuff was, which started with the 1/72 Spitfire PR19, and he was the guiding light behind that one. He also commented that all of the current crop of high quality kits, from Airfix and other makes, were producing an increased number of complaints about how tight the parts fit was, but this was because people were painting over the glue faces and that was enough to tighten the fits up!  :o

He confirmed my thoughts about the way the model industry is going in that the manufacturers are doing 1/48 stuff purely because it sells for more money and costs very little more to develop or manufacture. We both wondered what the profit margin was on the recently announced Czech 1/32 scale Lancasters.  ;D

He was more worried about the 1/24 version, and whether it should have 'What If' BEA markings or stick with the prototype's................  ;) ;D
