Hey Guys, Remember the Old TV Series 'The Rat Patrol'?  What Vehicles would work for Modelling a Modern Day Version of 'The Rat Patrol'? have some Ideas i may post but thought i'd ask first. Thanks for looking.Dan

Fulcrum

I used to watch it years ago, maybe Humvee's could be used in those roles in a possibe modern adaptation.
Fulcrums Forever!!!
Master Assembler

Maverick

Given the series was loosely based on the British LRDG, etc, perhaps looking at some SAS long-range patrol vehicles as used in Iraq or Afghanistan.  US Army Special Forces used a tricked up Hummer, but I don't think it lends itself to the raiding type role quite as much.  Land Rovers and their ilk would be my choice for the idea.

Well the Landrover special forces version is also used by some US units.

And...

Armourama had preview shots of the new 1/35th Hobbyboss kit of the Land Rover Wolf including the WMIK special forces version, otherwise itsan Accurate Armour resin & white metal kit !.

i dont know, as that shows from before my time, but i did some quick research and i would say that the Hummer would be the best way to go.
or the Jordanian Desert Iris if you want something more usefull.

on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

There was the XR311 project back in the ' 70s along with the various FAVs (Fast Attack Vehicle).

However, if one wants to be true to the 'spirit' of The Rat Patrol, then the handful of USMC M151s
modified to take the MG mount of the Hummer would be the closest. ;)

If it has to be really fast, maybe this will fit the bill:

raafif

but what would the enemy use ??  No modern (military) halftracks -- guess we'll have to mod a truck with those quad-type tracksets ?
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

I've seen a few monster trucks that use tracks.

I was going to suggest along very similar lines to John, the Light Strike Vehicle.  Another possibility is a simple 'Technical', a standard pick up with weapons mounts.  MiG Productions have done several Toyota Hi-Lux pick ups including two Technicals.  They also do a several versions of the Toyota BJ Landcrusier.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

One of these:

or another of their vehicles. Look up the Top Gear videos of what these things can do.

I want one. A real one. And a model one.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

This would be a good basis for something of the Rat Patrol sort:

or for that sporty look:

I have both in the stash and I've built the 405 before (currently in bits in one of the parts boxes), lovely kits.

When thet Australian SASR crossed into Iraq back in 2003, they were in their home grown LRPV (Long Range Patrol Vehicle) 6x6 Land Rovers and SRV (Surveillance Reconniassance Vehicle) 4x4 Land Rovers.  They were mounted with a mixture of M2HB .50cal, Mk19 40mm and Mag 58 7.62mm, plus personnel weapons.  Within each troop of vehicle would also be found  Javelin ATGM's and in some cases 81mm mortars.  There are several reported incidents where they engaged Iraqi BRDM's and armoured SUV's with their Javelins, with great results.

I've got some photos,  but I'm new here so haven't figured out how to attach them to posts.  Help please?
cheers
