Hi,
Having moved again, hopefully for the last time. I'll try and complete the following:

Placing a rotordome of the E-2 Hawkeye onto a Br1150 Atlantic and deleting the dipping radar with a-chain-link machine gun or remote cannon. Painting over the clear observation window in the front.

Swapping the wings of a P-3 Orion with another Br1150 Atlantic, result a two engined P-3 and a four engined Atlantic.

Putting a rotordome on a Nimrod MK2 P.

Raiding the spares box and adding two jet engines to the Atlantic-Europatrol.

Interesting - look forward to seeing these.

Not to criticize, but what's the point of the gun on an AEW platform?  Radar platforms don't usually operate near battle areas without fighter escort, and they're vulnerable to AAMs which are much longer-ranged than any cannon.  Just sayin'.

The gun could be used by Customs in anti-drug operations. Similar to the P-3 AEW, but with fire power.

I get that, but no one wants a big, expensive radar platform stooging around at low altitude trolling for drug-runners and pirates.  It's the AWACS' job to find threats, then steer armed interceptors/interdictors toward them.

Lots of bad guys getting hold of such things as RPG's and the occasional shoulder launched SAM as well so I don't think that it would be wise to send an AWACS down low near anything other than its own airfield.

What about a gunship conversion?
By using a similar layout to the AC-130H/U.
Remember this is a whiff and it's not real. Although whilst I was in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force a few of whiffs were taken away, never to be returned.

How about putting the rotordome and engines of a Hawkeye onto a P-2 Neptune? The turboprops are much more powerful than the radials, but then again, the Neptune also had booster turbojets which could be dispensed with if the main engines were more powerful.

This is the text on the English version of the site (can't link to that as it uses the same URL):

P-2J was developed as a transitional model until introducing PX-L or P-3 of the schedule as the succession patrol plane of P2V-7.
It is based on P2V-7.
The main remodeling is:
1.The main engine was changed from reciprocating engine to T64-IHI-10 of the turboprop.
Due to this, the propeller changed from 4 blade to three blade.
2.The auxiliary engine was changed into the J3-IHI-7C propjet made in Japan.
3.The fuselage was extended by about 1.3m, and TACCO (strategy aerial navigator) seat was installed.
4.The search radar was changed to smaller, more efficient APS-80J.
5.The main gear was changed from a single wheel to the double wheels with an antiskid device.
6.Increased the area of the rudder for improvement of the rudder.

Additionally, an internal electronic device was changed, and it came to be able to correspond also to the nuclear submarine of the latest type.

Scale    1:72
Base kit    HASEGAWA P2V-7 Neptune
Decal    Overall film simple decal of Sqn. mark and serial number is included

I was thinking of using the poddded jet engines from the Neptune on the Atlantic. A transport/cargo version without the M.A.D boom and large cargo door on one side.
Or a four engined turbo-prop Neptune.
A whiff but slightly daft could be adding the nimrods' wings to a Sunderland and using the nimrods landing gear as well.
I've fallen for buying two of the same kit, so my spares box keeps getting bigger.

McColm

I'm building the turbo Neptune with the Rotodome.
