Not sure where to put this topic, but I think here might be ok. Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.
Anyway, I kinda got the idea last night of possibly building in the forseeable future a 1,000 ft. long IOWA class battleship........though in 1/350 scale. ;) I've been a bit intrigued lately about what were called "Maximum Battleships", and it got me curious as to what would happen if an Iowa was 1000 ft. long. Would a 4th 16" turret be possible? Or even a 5th? How much longer would I have to lengthen a 1/350th Tamiya Missouri kit hull? And would I also need to widen it any? I'd probably build the ship in the same WWII timeframe, so this build would probably have an enormous amount of 20mm and 40mm guns. Anybody else have suggestions for building a ship of this type?
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

The follow-on design from the Iowas was the Montana-class battleship, basically an enlarged Iowa with another turret, heavier armour, and reduced speed. They were cancelled in favour of more carriers.

Yeah, but he's already built one of those.

Ah, wasn't aware of that. :) In that case, go to the next level - stretch and widen the Iowa, and arm it with either eight (4x2) or nine (3x3) 18" guns. Or even add a plug in the middle of the hull, and add in an extra "Q" turret between the fore and aft superstructure. Say that it's a slower version, with engine spaces taken up by the new turret.

How about a BB armed with one great big turret mounting an "Atomic Annie" large calibre, nuclear capable cannon - surely the ultimate expression of a 'Maximum Battleship'!?!
