I recently discovered this glorious example of Superior Socialist Agricultural Aeronautical Technology, the Ilyushin IL-102:

It's ugly, awkward and unwanted - and as such I am just a little bit in love with it. ;D Does anyone know if a kit was ever made? Unlikely I would have thought, but I can hope!

I like that
I have never seen this before as a kit or otherwise, and I would like one also, in 1/72nd scale of course
That is a nice find there

It was offered for sale as an export model during the 1980's

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I saw a scratch/kitbashed one built by Flankerman online a couple of years ago.  I can't get anything but the index page to load, though.

You are correct JJC, it was the competitor to the SU-25, but was not chosen, maybe cos it looks just too Russian
Or no one would fly it cos they were just too embarrassed to.
I would still like a kit of it though.

Yeap Ken left some of his build articles on his old website and they vanished when the website went. Its worth asking Flankerman on ARC to see if he can post it up on his current site as it was quite an intereting scratch build. Of course doing one now there may be a better source of kits to use as a basis.

I spoke to Ken this afternoon and he will try to restore the link to the Il-102 build over the weekend. In the meantime, (slightly off topic, but an impressive example of scratchbuilding) you should look at Ken's ongoing build of the Sukhoi T-50/PAK-FA, Russia's answer to the F-22. www.flankers-site.co.uk/modl_pakfa.html

In fact, his whole site is worth looking at, including the F-17 Flankercat and the Virgin Atlantic Ekranoplan: www.flankers.co.uk

McGreig,

Holy cow!  Ken's work is amazing!  It's also a helluvlotof work!  Nicely done and inspirational for anyone also doing such scratchbuilding.

Thanks for posting the link.

This brute looks like a full size 1 to 1 scale scratchbuilt, what else can you call it. Certainly a challenge to the person who can build or scratch build a model of it. "Your Mission should you decide to accept it.................." cue theme tune...lol
