Started the Revell 1/72nd Vosper, which will become a gunboat on skis.
Possibly a pirate one, or Viking raider ;D

It'll look nice when painted, weathered, with new armament, skis, and a jet engine. A quite nice but ancient moulding.

Ha, lol.
Thinking of mounting a couple of small turrets and a more flexible gun without too much bulk on the front. Lots of crew too, when I've sorted 1/72nd figures in bulky winter gear!

Hwo about aircraft turrets like the RAF rescue launches had?

I have plans......

a possible Sherman with a DEFA 105mm gun, like the Israelis used on their M-51 Isherman :drink:
This would be therefore a Pirate/Raider from the Mid Sea.
or...
a Soviet JS2 turret, and have it either as a Viking or Rus Pirate raider.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Build resurrected.
I now have a 1/72nd Achilles turret that'll be nice (from a HAT kit)....going to play with it soon.

Just got to put some skis on it now.
The idea is to have it re-stocking on a diorama, for which I need suitable 1/72nd figures in winter clothing, or I could go totally bonkers and have it as either an Ork Navy or Zombie Navy version? Then I could use the Games Workshop figures.
The turret of the Achilles is great, but really needs a roof to cover the total lack of depth and detail. I'll probably stretch a tarpaulin over it as it's at a base, or possibly a more permanent fixture using card and rod. M10/M36s frequently had such roofs fitted in the field anyway.
In fact....quite liking the idea of Orks, Zombies, Undead, etc....

If you want Arctic figures, the old Revell 1/77th (ish) Ford Tri-motor has a couple of explorer types in it plus a dog sled, and it was re-issued as a "classic" kit not too long ago. Bit extravagant just to get the figures, but I'm sure the plane (which also has skis BTW) wouldn't go to waste.....

Examples of the figures in my Trackrover thread: http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,26984.0.html

Note that the re-issue boxing has classic airlines decals and doesn't mention the skis or Arctic types, but they're still there.

Thanks for that....the Games Workshop figures are a bit big.
There's some figures in winter clothing in 1/72nd in the Zvezda, Strelet, Italeri ranges and I might use some of those...perhaps have the gunboat crewed, ready to attack?

Cheers.
I've added the skis and will add some tissue/white glue tarpaulins for the boat "re-stocking" diorama. I've cleaned up the kit figures which are completely unsuitable for what I need, but will be fine on various Biggles dioramas I have planned.
Hopefully spraying later. ;D

Bought some figures...D.A.K. Infantry via Italeri in 1/72nd. They'll be fine for my "Middle Sea" diorama.
