This cutaway is poor quality, but appears to show a large open space, possibly a fuel tank?

The lower reaches are probably taken up by the nose landing gear bay.

A fuel tank would make the most sense in that area. It's pretty big and in a fairly inconvenient place to be taken up with avionics.

I found a cut-away drawing in an old aircraft magazine. Says the area houses the nose landing gear bay and above it racks for electronic equipment. Looks almost like a server room. It's probably a rather old drawing, back from the times of the Cold War, so it could be an artist's impression. Said drawing indicates that a fuselage tank starts just aft of that (between the intakes on the M2).
