Here's a really craptacular 1/72 Su-9 saved from the scrap heap.  I bought it for $1 from a LHS a few years back.  I'd been forgetting to post this one for some time.

COMRADES!!!!

I present to you the American Soviet Socialist Republic (it warms the cockles of my communist heart to say that) Peoples' Air Force Su-9, meant to defend our Western brothers against the forces of Canada!

ZA RODINA!!!

Comrade Captain Anatoly Iosef Pakizorich, Naval Aviation Bureau

Basically, the idea for this one popped up when I got some knock off Hasegawa wannabe F-15's from eBay.  The decals had their blues and reds reversed!  Insta-whif decals!  A little searching online brought me to the flag for the fin.  Took these pics about a year and a half ago, but completely forgot about them!

Not to nit-pick, but is this not an Su-7?  I have a craptacular Cooperativa Su-9, and it has delta wings.

Could be, but it was a $1 kit, and the Soviets sold it to the Soviet Americans, so they probably labeled it as a pre-Su-9 "advanced fighter"   ;D

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

        It is a -7, the -9 is a delta, like a bigger MiG-21.

Su-7? That's like a fixed wing Su-23, yes?

Whatever it's history it looks great, love the back to front decals.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The Su-7IG variant lead directly to the Su-17/-20/-22 family in reality but as this is a WHIF (& a kickass one at that), you are free to ignore that.  ;D

Very very nice indeed, and not crap by any stretch of the imagination
I have an SU-7 in the stash, and will be glad if it looks half as good as that.

Love the camo on the finished work man - it's an absolutely wicked piece there.  The swept wings look pretty wicked, and the shock cone nose is just beautiful on the piece.  She's a beautiful beast, man.
