After reading JayBee's thread on the Nimrod MR.2 (brilliant concept BTW) it brought me back to something I have in mind for my 1/72 Vanguard vacuform kits.  The story would go along the lines of the RCAF getting hold of a number of ex-Trans Canada Air Lines Vanguards and using them in a number of variants, AEW/AWAC, Maritime Patrol, that sort of thing.  This aircraft was intended to replace the Canadair Argos, so I'm trying to come up with a name for them and started by thinking something celestial because of the Lockheed Aurora, but then after looking up what each name meant (Argos=bright or shining and Aurora=dawn) I realised that a celestial name wasn't the road to go down.  So I'm looking for a name along the same lines but I haven't a clue what it would be, does anyone have a suggestion along the lines of the other two aircraft as in my AH the Aurora comes along later than it did so I don't want to use that name.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The CP-107 Argus was, according to a website on the aircraft, named for Argus (Argos) Panoptes 'the all-seeing' of Greek Myth:
"And set a watcher upon her, great and strong Argos, who with four eyes looks every way. And the goddess stirred in him unwearying strength: sleep never fell upon his eyes; but he kept sure watch always." Argus-Argos is also commonly referred to as having 'one hundred eyes'. Argos was slain by Hermes.

So following the logic that Argus was watchful and one of the synonyms for watchful is vigilant,
perhaps the Vickers Vanguard becomes the Canadair CP-1XX Vigilant?

Some RW trivia, there was a Canadian Vickers built single-seat sesquiplane of 1928 called the Vigil
and in 1944 the aircraft divisions of Canadian Vickers were transferred to a Crown company known
as Canadair Ltd.

Even more to think about, thanks Jon.  I guess I didn't get the meaning for Argus right as I had spelt it wrong but your findings are very enlightning, it seems mythology is the way to go.

To add a bit of extra meaning to Astra, it also has a Hindu meaning, as a divine weapon.

Interesting....if you're going Jim's route, you'd take the name of the a/c in 'real life' had. So maybe it would be Argus or Aurora ? I know it's kind of boring, but......

I hadn't thought of that Todd, I was thinking it would be inbetween the two, but maybe if it was a good aircraft then the Lockheed wouldn't have been acquired so the Vanguard could be called an Aurora and as Jon has pointed out, Canadian Vickers became Canadair.  So it would have been a follow-on aircraft from Canadair.
