Well they look good value to me, anyway.........

Hobbycraft are currently selling the Revell 1/48th F-105G and the 1/72nd MiG-31 Foxhound for £7.50 each. Whatever the quality (and it doesn't look terrible from the box shots) that's an awful lot of plastic for the money: you can pay more than that for a 1/72nd F-105G..............

Edit - on-line model shops want £13+ for the Thud.....

The Revell MiG31, unless it's been redone or is the EE/ICM/Zvezda Kit, is VERY inaccurate and I woulddn't touch it with a barge pole. It's a damm shame the F105 is in 48th, I'd kill for one of those puppies in 72nd scale!!

If it's this one...

....it is indeed the one by Zvezda. Very good kit, but even the decals sheet alone is well worth the £7.50. The same goes for the Thud. Even if you want to build the Hobby Boss -105G, get the Revell kit for the decals.

For a look at the sprues and decals, here are the Modellversium reviews for the MiG-31 FOXHOUND and for the F-105G THUNDERCHIEF.
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

I have two 1/72 Mig 31's, one is the Zhengdefu which IIRC was also the original Revell kit, truely horrible as already noted. The other is the ICM boxing which is a very nice kit but to comment on accuracy on either I couldn't say. I can say though, that certain parts of the Zhengdefu kit do not look like photos of the real thing.

It's that one.

Picked up a Mig 31 today. They also had Dam Buster Lancasters and Wellingtons in 1:72 for £7.50 - definitely worth a look!

Well seeing as my local hobbycraft has sehd loads of them I might go and get one. As for decals, I have the excellent Bergemont set for the MiG31 and it is a lovely set. I suppose it it is time to add another Lancaster to the stash. I already have that exacy wimpey kit. Now, if they decides to do the HE177 at that price...I could be very interested.

Just looked to see where my nearest store was (Leeds or Sheffield unfortunately, both more than 50 miles) & saw that they had a Revell 1/72 Wellington on offer for the same £7.49.  I guess this the old Matchbox Wimpey?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Have to agree with Lee - the Revell (Matchbox) Wimpey is a nice little kit

My "local" Hobbycraft is at Woking - 25 miles as or 45 mins on 2 trains - but as there are a couple of decent pubs in Woking I may take a trip
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

You've also got Woking Models as well, and that is a decent little shop, although it is a little bit tucked away

can someone point me in the direction of why the Revelle /Zevseda kit is so bad? I have been looking about for good Migs to add to the collection, however if this kit is bad, I don't want her.

I think there's two Revell MiG-31's, an older boxing which dates from the 80's & suffers from the problem a lot of Soviet subjects had back then, there were few references so a lot of guess work was involved resulting in innacuarcies.

The more recent one is co-boxing with Zvezda & is much better from what I can gather.  A quick look at sprue shots on the web show that the build looks quite complex, Zvezda split their kits in a strange way that can catch you out if your not careful with the construction.

Gary, I don't think the Revell/Zvezda one is the bad one, from all accounts said about the ICM/Zvezda/Revell on ARC, it's the cats meow.  The one that was bad was the previous Revell/Zhengdefu/some other company I can't remember the name off.

Yeah, the old Revelle... (USA?) boxing is more speculative like their goofy looking attack chopper. Terrible thing for accuracy, but fun as heck for wiff! I read someone's book that looked at those kits and dismissed almost the entire line of early Revelle USA Russian aircraft series. They had some even with movie titles.

However, wasn't it someone here who took one of those kits and made that amazing tail sitter? If the kit is cheap and you can do something cool like that, then it's worth it.

Thanks for the info. Now when I save enough to get the things I want in the order I want them, I'll have to order that baby! Mmmmm, Russian engineering.

Anyone in the UK who's after one of the Revell Classics series take note: a lot of them are now in the Modelzone sale. Highlights are WWI biplanes for £2 (!!!!) 1/72nd Lysander for £4, 1/118th Martin Mariner for £5, 1/69th V2 for £5.00. I also just got a 1/77th Ford Tri-motor for £5.00, although I'm not sure if they've got a lot of those or if it was a one-off.
