Sabre engined.  Obviously.

Very interesting - I look forward to the finished result. What is the base kit?
I am rather partial to Furies of all description. Except that of SWMBO!

Cool looking AC I'll have to go look that up.

Hmmmm, it took me a minute, but I'm not the brightest crayon in the box.  It's got a real rugged look to it, almost totally un-Fury like.  Almost like a P-47, but I like the lines of the F1 a little better.  And not much putty, either.  This thing simply rocks.

In my very stereotypical American way, I almost want to see it cammied up, and loaded up with everything but the kitchen sink, like an AD-1 or Warthog. . .

Here you go - the real thing:

That's the photo I used to model mine from, I think Lee's needs a slightly longer nose though, you'll notice that the rear end of the exhaust stubs is a little in front of the leading edge of the radiators

Spit 19s are the most beautiful single piston aircraft ever, but the Sabre Fury really must be the most handsome.  Looking forward to the finished article, Lee - especially as I've got one of my own on the waiting list for this year.  ;D ;D

Proved to be Hawker's fastest piston engined fighter too, not quite doing 500 mph

I meant to add that my original plan was for a purely whif Griffon Fury, using the Airfix Firefly 5 nose and prop.  But I actually like the Airfix Firefly, and I couldn't bring myself to chop it up (maybe if I get a second one I might just do it), and in any case, not having married up the parts the shunt may not work.  Thankfully The Wooksta sent me the bits to do a Sabre Fury.  ;D ;D

Your whif isn't that far from the truth, there were two Tempests which were earmarked for Griffons, a description I was given by the Air-britain Specialist on Typhoons & Tempests for one of them was very similar to the Firefly Mk.1 nose, the other I think would have had the annular radiator as the serial number for the airframe was the same as the one in the earlier photo sotoolslinger posted, it originally being engined with a Griffon and annular radiator.

What baffles me is that, given how neatly cowled the Griffon could be, plus Hawker's work into leading edge radiators for the Sabre, how pug ugly the Griffon Fury was!  I'm amazed Hawker didn't employ a layout similar to the stunning Sabre Fury.
The Griffon Tempests, by the way (Griffon IIB/Tempest III, Griffon 61/Tempest IV) didn't pass the project stage.

There's a number of designs at that time which baffles me why they were never proceeded with, the jet engine could have turned out to be a right lemon, but that's another story isn't it.

The Sabre VII Fury I'm doing will be one of a group which will all be of airframe serial LA610, starting with, as you say the project only, Tempest MkIV with Griffon and annular radiator, then when the serial was passed to the Fury project as the Fury with Griffon and annular radiator, then to it's final configuation with the Sabre VII.  I've not been able to find any drawings of the Tempest Mk.IV though so what I'm building is a bit of guess work, I was told that the Mk.IV was the 'light weight' Tempest which would have had the shorter wing span like a Fury so I've changed how the wings are fitted and added the annular radiator because of how it first looked like when it appeared as a Fury.

Did you know that the Tempest Mk.III was originally to have a full eliptical wing like a Spitfire?  The Air-Britain Specialist told me he had seen a drawing showing this.

Aha!  I've got a Griffon Fury on the to-do list as well, although I'm not intending to accurately represent LA610 as she looked with a Griffon, rather a 'tidied' version using the front end of a Frog/Novo/Revell Shackleton Griffon.  That's the plan, anyway - don't know which year I'll do it in though!  ;D ;D

There's the wreckage of a Firefly somewhere if you want it.
Yes please, but not yet if you don't mind.  Perhaps we can swap something at SMW2009?  ;D ;D
