Planes from anime

Well, earlier were here topics about models of planeas from anime, one of them looks like modified japanease Shinden. Could anyone tell me, what's this?

It's called the "Sanka Mk. B", from the anime series "The Sky Crawlers":



There are 1/48 and 1/72 kits available of it, from Fine Molds and Bandai respectively. The Fine Molds 1/48 kit is available from Hobby Link Japan and the Starship Modeler Store.

A member of Starship Modeler built the 48th one this past week, and he has a short review and more pics up at the SSM forums here: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/viewtopic.php?t=68736.

Kits were released by General Products, the garage kit arm of the anime production house Gainax during the late 80s. General Products folded sometime in the early 90s when Gainax got into financial problems and the kits now sell for silly prices on the Yahoo! Japan Auction site. Sometime in 2004, Gainax released 1/144 painted scale models of the Shira-Dow fighter (the Shinden look-alike fighter with the wicked skewed prop-fan) in both single and double cockpit versions. It might still be available from Hobbylink Japan.

I always liked the various aircraft from "The Wings of Honneamise" - would love some model kits (or even decent pictures) of.

Whether or not Hayao Miyazaki's film "Porco Rosso" qualifies completely or not, the Fine Molds kits in both 1/72 and 1/48 are fantastic and if ordered direct from Japan in kit form, price out fairly reasonable.     Some of the Miyazaki kits from Nausicaa are no longer available but were quite decent as well and make for interesting strafing runs across the dining room table and the wife's pony tail.

there is a 1/144 (twin pack) fron Platz from HLJ and 1999 to.... although it seems to be the same price as the 1/7 and 1/48!!!???

Well when it comes to anime aircraft models Hasegawa's Macross kits are the most easily available.  There were one or two 1/72 kits based on the Yukikaze series from Platz that were super sweet but were really expensive - over US$100 each!!!

Dont forget that Bandai realeased a few Yukikaze kits in their "EX"Line of kits a little expensive but much more redily availible and cheaper than the platz kits

Apparently the Vic Viper kit is a bit of a pig - very poor fit of parts, lots of work required. Just a heads-up - it's a cool design.

Bandai (?) made the flying wing from Nausicaa in 1/20 scale.   There are few parts but what is there is very very well done.

I saw those, but I was majorly bummed out that they were 1/100.
