I just picked up a copy of this years Pocketbond catalogue & I noticed that Alanger had a 1/72 "Garpun" Russian Stealth Fighter kit due out this year.  WTF???  A quick net search only brought up a Russian naval missile guidance radar & a high energy laser research institute.

Never heard of it myself, not sure if it's a real aircraft/project, a projected design of the MiG 1.44 or something else, or just a whiff on Alangers part.  It looks a bit like the MiG 1.44 with delta canard configuration, a rounder nose with chines & intakes are MiG-29 a-like but fuselage mounted.

Scanned the image from the catalogue, apologies for the poor quality but it's a tiny pic:

Wether real or not it'll probably be good fodder for us guys.  Anyone got the foggiest???

Simon.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

GTX

Never heard of it - I'd go with the MiG 1.44 theory or simply imaginative.

I looks like MiG 701, projected MiG-31 replacement. There were several concepts, and one of them looks like that thing.

Baldrick: No, but I have done a lot of Airfix models in my time.

Thanks Overscan, thought if it was a real project, you might know!  Worth browsing that link, there's some nice pics there, cheers!

Better pic from the link Overscan provided:

Kind of looks like the offspring of a 1.44 & a Fullback.  Now if Alanger are making any more kits along these lines I'll have a bucket load!  I know they do a few Frog-spawn along with some of their own, anyone know what their kits are like?

I foolishly volunteer to buy the first copy!

I want one!  I'm with Mossie, in that it looks like the offspring of a MiG 1.44 and an Su-34, with a little SR-71 thrown in for looks.

Da, tovarish, when it comes to almost real or believable whif models, I am da Man.  But Overscan be da Man when it comes to real Russian/Soviet projects and what not.

I saw this CGI sometime last year, and how it was supposed to do everything and cook you dinner, I didn't even bother mentioning it (I think I first saw it on Sinodefense or some other silly website).  It's about the same type of fiction as Macross and Super Sylph Yukikaze (or however you spell it).

Now, as a model in 1/72, I am definitely more interested it in now than I was a year ago.  Anyone got a price on this thing yet?

No idea how much the kit'll be yet, & hard to tell from their other 1/72 releases as they've not done anything so big.  Going that'd it be roughly the size of their 1/100 Russian airliners, around £10-12 or US$15-20 (since models tend to be on the cheaper side in the US).  That'd put it at a touch dearer than Italeri's Fullback, seems about right.
