Catalina Wreck off Saudi Arabia

I came across a picture of a wrecked Catalina, and looked on Google Maps to see if it showed up in their satellite images - it does, and if you go to street view, you can do a walk around!

If this is the one Iím thinking of there is a story behind it. IIRC a family was using it as an air yacht. They were sightseeing and camping when attacked by Bedouins who thought they were Israeli commandos. Long story short the aircraft got shot up and the family barely escaped. Let me see if I can look that up.

The attackers were Bedouin serving as Saudi Army auxiliaries, the situation
actually became worse after the Saudi Army proper took over their custody.
"Evil our grandsires were, our fathers worse;
And we, till now unmatched in ill,
Must leave successors more corrupted still."

I'd of thought landing in an Arab country in the 60's un-announced wasn't the brightest thing to do was it ?
