It was a long time since I mixed two aircraft kits, and the time seems to have come to do another one:

The first idea is a swept-wing Mustang (and straight wing Tunnan) but more transformation is considered.
The basis is 2 kits Heller 1/72.

Maybe this all comes from a dream yesterday:

This morning, I have written a short story (a love story) featuring the character GĂ©rard Nesey (myself in the Dream planet) and he is a what-if modeller, very happy to receive a model kit from his beloved secret girlfriend:

At the end of the story, they marry, but there is no relation anymore to what-if Mustangs.

I considered making at the same time a jet-Mustang with the nose air intake of the Tunnan, but this has already been done:

Here is the puzzle of parts from which 2 aircraft will appear...

I do not guarantee I will follow the guideline instructions. A realist plane: "seldom, if ever, does she cross my mind" as was singing Mickey Newbury in the beautiful song "I don't think much about her no more"...

Paint up a Tunnan with Mustang wings in a USN scheme and you'll have something like a FJ Fury on steroids.
Whatever.

Tophe

That's an interesting idea, thanks! ;D
But I am not sure I will follow it. The Tunnan (Barrel in Swedish) has an ugly fuselage, what is beautiful is mainly its wing. And as my models are not to be seen from below, the 4 half-half-wings provide me with 2 sets of wings... I am not sure at all that I will use (this time) the P-51 wing... :-\ ;D

I could certainly see you putting the wings further back and making a canard Tunnan,,, or using the tail feathers to make a V-tail.

Tophe

Yes, this is very possible: the wings are not glued at all, just put in position to dream...

The planform of the Mustang with the Tunnan wings reminds me of the Do 355.
Whatever.

Tophe

Interesting comparison, thanks.

Then I received the visit of a butcher and... Tunnan does not mean Barrel anymore, oh...

Update, with truncation also on the Mustang side:

Now the very beginning of the putty time:

It is far from being finished... :-\

I consider these names for the two models:
J.91D North-Amesaab Mustunnan
J.92 SAANA Tunang
from North American (NA) P-51D Mustang and SAAB J.29 Tunnan (Barrel)

Not forgetting to cut the roots of tailplanes on the Mustang (and putty there too):

Sanding, then putty again, on the Tunnan part:
