Thought it might be an idea to have a thread for this.

October's AMW has a review & build of the Airfix Victor K.2 tanker kit, as well as the Eduard L-39 and the Zvezda Yak-130. For the armour folk there's the Trumpeter 1/35th SA-4 Ganef SAM system and aftermarket bits for the Italeri 20mm Flak Maultier.

AND

There's a free Pocketbond catalogue to drool over...

That's odd, I thought I had all of tem.  ;D

Which manufacturer and what version please? I won't get sight of the mag till tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.

Oh I don't know! It's one of those tin tube things where people get in at the front and out at the back, and money falls out of the bottom...  ;)

Okay, okay: it's a DC-9-40 in DHL colours by Fly.

I don't have my September issue yet.
 :banghead:

My subscription ran out but having renewed for two years I am expecting that issue plus my free P-40.

Just got mine in the local supermarket here.
The Pocketbond catalogue is most interesting if a little heavy on both the armour subjects, and the larger scales.

A -40?

That's good, that'll be the first -40 in 1/144 scale ever I think, even if only two airlines bought that version.

Oddly enough, there are not one but two builds in the mag that use an unexpected pink undercoat. One is a very pretty 1/48th Mitubishi A5M4 Claude in NMF which uses pink as an undercoat for the hinomarus and tail fin in order to make the final red look deeper, and the other is the DHL DC-9 which uses it as an undercoat for the yellow in order to make it richer and deeper without too many coats. I'd never have thought of the second one, but it works a treat judging by the pics - good tip to remember!

The article says that Fly's basic injection tooling is a -30, to which they add alternative fuselage sprues and small resin bits to make all the versions.

ALL the versions? Deep joy!

At last I'll be able to finish of my 'All DC9s' collection without spending ages sawing up and re-gluing a zillion Airfix kits.

Picked up a copy today, very happy to see the separate parts for the SR version which will allow me to build both as I have a decal less boxing in the stash.

I've mentioned using pink as an undercoat for yellow on site a fair few times. It was first mentioned to me a couple of years ago now, and yes it is quite surprising, but does work. Getting the right shade of pink is the trick.

My September issue finally arrived.

I like how the Vampire T11 build with it's emphasised panel lines is immediately followed by a collection of photos of 1:1 Swedish Vampires exhibiting almost no visible panel lines.

Indeed.

They did exactly the same with their Swift FR5 'review'. When are these 'reviewers' going to LEARN?  :banghead:
