The Tower Bridge incident. Any decals?
« on: February 15, 2018, 06:00:02 pm »
As many of you know, on April 5th 1968,  Flight Lieutenant Alan Pollock of No, 1 Squadron, a little peeved that no official ceremonies were planned for the 50th anniversary of the formation of the RAF, flew his Hawker Hunter on a joyride, which included going through the upper and lower spans of Tower Bridge. Details here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Hunter_Tower_Bridge_incident

Since the 100th anniversary of the RAF is fast approaching, I was wondering if anyone (Wooksta?) knows if decals are available for the Hunter FGA.9 used, XF442. Such a famous/infamous flight should be part of the modeling record, don't you think?

Doubtful it's on a sheet, but given the period, standard 1 Sqn markings and various serial code and roundel sheets should suffice to do it.  IIRC, 1 Sqn Hunter markings are on an old Modeldecal sheet - I collected quite a few Hunter sheets but I can't quite remember what's on what!

I have a vague memory that ModelArt did a decal sheet with it on? I shall look and see if I can find a reference

The bigger question is, which RAF pilot will fly his Typhoon through Tower Bridge this year?

It'd be even more impressive with an Atlas or a Voyager!  :o
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Probably more likely to be a Predator remotely-piloted from Waddington these days :(

A Camel or SE5  would  be equally startling........

You can do it if you mix and match, XF442 serials are available on an Xtradeceal sheet in 58 Sqn guise, the B is on the same sheet but another aircraft.

There's another sheet with 1 Sqn markings:

Or if your happy to do it in the small scale....

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Some of you (mostly in the south) will have seen the IPMS London table at model shows. Our backdrop is a model of Tower Bridge with a Hunter flying through!

It's actually a Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle model with a 1/144 Revell Hunter mounted on a clear rod which is attached to a clear sheet at the back.

It's also our club logo if you look closely http://www.londonmodellers.co.uk/

I'd like to see the entire Battle of Britain flight do it...
...in formation obviously.

Another ill conceived, poorly thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
