London Model Engineer Show 2018
« on: January 18, 2018, 03:14:54 pm »
This weekend is the London Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace. Opens Friday to Sunday, 10-4 each day.
Tickets are 12 on the door, reductions if bought online or for Senior Citizens.

http://londonmodelengineering.co.uk/

I'll be there Friday and maybe Sunday with the Association of London Modelers representing the plastic kit community. I understand this is more for the actual engineer side of things so working miniature steam engines and sail boats are more the order of the day but I spy at least 4 model clubs booked on the website.

See you there?

I've been a few times Nick and yes it is intended more for the model engineers rather than us ordinary folk  ;) Some fascinating stuff though and I was amazed with what could be done with Meccano

Found it quite useful for tools etc back then.

I won't be there, combination of reasons, mainly it's an awkward place for me to get to.

Enjoy yourself

If you really want to see a 1/72 HMS Ark Royal with a full flight component then this is the show to see. The chap who built it said he's never had out at a show before, only sailing her on a local lake. Yup, she is radio controlled and has 4 thrust motors along with a working elevator and spinning radars!

Weighs 81kg empty, 102kg with ballast. Taking the 25+ aircraft and vehicles off for packing away is just the first challenge as they then have to put the whole boat onto a cradle on a trailer and box it all up for towing. Too big to fit in a car as she is nearly 12 foot long (3.4m)!

I really have to sort out an alternative to Photobucket this year...

Good to see Meccanomen on the list.
I used to attend the show when it was at the Brighton Centre and the Meccano fairground always stopped me in my tracks.

Magnificent!

I wish I'd seen it, but although I was in sight of Ally Pally at b'fast time this morning I've caught a hell of a cold and just wanted to get back home to bed.  :banghead:
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings

Yep, that's the one! Looks even better up close.

And the Meccano group had a 10ft high model of the Eiffel Tower in the centre. What I really like is their model of Thomas Heatherwicks' bridge over the canal at Paddington. It's a rolling bridge that quite literally folds itself up at one end.
