Looking for inspiration!
« on: August 20, 2017, 11:20:35 pm »
So, I am the proud owner of a 1/72 Mk.XIVc Spitfire. The problem is trying to come up with what to do with it... Any ideas will be appreciated!

Some ideas:-
Post war racer
Italian co-belligerent forces, late 1944
Luftwaffe operated KG200 or Zirkus Rosarius aircraft
U S navy point defence fighter , either land or carrier based
A "Narvik Nightmare" type  floatplane in Swedish or Free Danish A/F   colours

......or even a boring ordinary RAF aircraft, slipped into a selection of whiffed material to make people boggle trying to find what's been "adjusted"

I'm sure that a Geordie gentleman of this group will be able to provide a great deal more encouragement/imagination to assist you!

Longer wings.............  ;D ;D
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Post War sale to somewhere in S America ? Improbable in real life I suppose but what the heck  ;)

Or how about Spanish Republican post WWII ? I've built a couple of builds circa 1946/1948 on the assumption that the Spanish Civil war had come to a stalemate and a defacto cease fire line had been formed on the Ebro.

Add another wing to make it into a bi-plane or paint an advertising slogan on it.

Off the top of my head I think that only the RAF operated that version so you could easily paint it up in the markings of one of the many customers for the Mk.IX post war, Egypt or Israel, Turkey or Italy being some examples along with Belgium and Denmark to name but a few....

Bring the wings to the rear & the tail-planes forward to just behind the engine in a canard lay-out. Pull the cockpit back to just forward of the leading edge of the (revised location) wing & fit a nose wheel aft of the engine.

Probably need to shorted the main landing gear & juggle it so that they deploy outwards, rather than inwards, too.

Ornithopter.
Fred

Let's make Victoria great again.

Another ill conceived, poorly thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I saw This today

+1 Ornithopter!  I always thought an A-6 would look simply perfect with big articulated wings too

Morvalonga (my African Imgi-Nation) had Spitfire MkIXLF (courtesy Spinner) so might have had later marks too?

A wonderfully off-the-wall idea, well worth trying.

It wouldn't be easy to retain the Spitfire's classic 'gull wing' under the wing roots, but it could be fun trying.

How much kitbashing do you want to do? Evidently not a canard, but would any of these be within scope:
* DH Vampire/Venom twin-boom tail, much shortened fuselage. (Needs second tailwheel for the other boom)
* Twin floats off something the right size (an update to the ones that did fly).
* Napier Sabre-filled nose and radiator off a Hawker Typhoon/Tempest.
* Retractable nosewheel in bulged fairing and mainwheels with zero forward rake when down.

Or, just give it a German winter camouflage and spoof squadron markings. Engine cowlings/exhausts from a Bf 109 optional.

(If I were building a canard Spit, I'd get a later bubble-canopy variant and simply fit the wings, tailplane and canopy back to front as a pusher type. Just need to cut off the fin and stick it in front of the prop, and find a longer nosewheel. OMG now you've got me started...)
