In the mid 1980s following success of the modified Krivak III KGB patrol ship it was decided by the Soviet Navy to get the Yantar yard in the Baltic to do an up armed Krivak III with more of a General Purpose capability to match current NATO vessels rather than the dedicated ASW orientated Krivak I/II frigates. The Krivak IV Project 1135.3 had the helicopter deck and hanger as per the KGB Patrol ships but intended for the Ka-27 Helix ASW variant, it had its 100mm gun forward in place of the SS-14 ASW missile launcher, SAN-9 Gauntlet VLS missile silo's were added along with the Cross Swords director which was the new SAM system fitted in the Udaloy ASW Destroyers and the Kirov class Battlecruisers, 8 SSN-25 Switchblade missiles ('Harpoonski') added a new anti-ship capability giving the ships the similar capability as contemporary NATO warships. The bridge and forward superstructure was raised an extra deck to improve accommodation and to house the additional systems for the newer weapons and sensors such as the Top Steer radar.

Only Two ships of the class were completed out of the intended batch of 8 ships as the design was superseded by the similar armed but more capable Project 11540 Neustrashimyy ships  with a similar armament but in a longer and more stealthier design. However they are popular and capable ships and still serve today alongside the newer ships due to their contemporary fit and all round capability where their earlier older sister ships have been retired due to being outdated. They are likely to be replaced in the coming years by the new Admiral Grigorovich class Project 11356 (Krivak VI) which evolved from this design but with a much stealthier shape and updated weaponry and sensors.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Good job on the story and build. You have that odd orange and green-gray colour scheme down.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Akan paints Joe, they do accurate Soviet Navy Ship colours for the various fleets with the Orange Red, Green and Charcoal deck and lower hull options plus about 7 different Greys including the very dark ones you can see.

Should be available in the US from Linden Hill
