Not sure quite where to post this(mods please move it if you think appropriate).  Not a gate guard but a stained glass window; a memorial to the staff of the Radar Research Establishment  at Malvern and Defford.   It's at Goodrich Castle, overlooking the river Wye, between Monmouth and Ross.  If I can get my act together, I'll try to post pix.  There's a Halifax, Chain Home Aerials and lots of unit crests pictured.

Added later:-

If we're doing church windows then we must add in Lincoln Cathedral. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4115631

That spot on Helvellyn will do, people will have to open their eyes and find it themselves!

There's a nice memorial just outside Brighton at Ditchling. When Richard Demetriadi was shot down in the Battle of Britain his parents bought some land there for preservation by the National Trust. You can see for miles out across the English Channel from there.

Is the Ditchling one at 50.90032, -0.10631?  I have it added temporarily till we're sure.

Memorials and windows are certainly relevant.  I started the map and FB group to record all the museums in the world that have aviation exhibits, and have expanded it to include anything that would interest aviation history enthusiasts such as myself.  So, gate guards, memorials, even factory tours and planes converted to restaurants.

We now have more than 1400 museums, more than 2800 sites total.

If you're into memorials, you might want to check out the FB group Aviation Memorials Worldwide:

That's close enough for me. There is a little plaque in the circle car park but the actual memorial is a couple of large fields. Maybe you could add some more detail to the description?

I moved it up the hill a bit and added a description. Planes are hard enough to find sometimes, but smaller things can be a bear.

There are now more than 3000 sites on the map.  Just over 1400 museums, and new additions have slowed way down.  Gate guards are trickling in, as I have time to add them, and a few museums pop up while searching for those.

Added, thanks.  Thought I had that one, actually. Maybe it was down last time I looked.

    Nice!!

I'd like to think that the slow-down is in one way disappointing but.. realistically, it means a thorough job has been done, most things are accounted for, and pretty much only the odd, obscure, and hard-to-find remain.

Thanks!

Yep, I think we have pretty much all of the museums.  Gate guards aren't the primary mission of the map, but it's nice to know what aviation displays are nearby when you're traveling.  For example, we were planning a trip from Columbus, Ohio to Pittsburgh.  I saw the John Glenn museum and ended up going there, saw a few gate guards which we ended up bypassing (I sometimes get outvoted,) and stumbled across a Cobra that is now on the map.

More than 3400 entries now on the map.  Still pretty sure we have all of the museums.  I've added a lot of gate guards.  Filled in Japan pretty well, using the amazing lists at J-Hangarspace.  Well worth checking out for museum reports, airfield histories, etc.

I'm moving on to some of the more sparsely populated areas.  Can't find any in Iraq.  Found a few in North Korea.  Headed to central Asia and Africa.

They've probably all been bombed to pulp by various parties, thinking they were operational.  ;D ;)

There were huge boneyards in Iraq but I guess they have been recycled by now.  The real Captain Fat Hamster was there and sent me these.  I was not allowed to know where he was and I don't think he was supposed to be playing in them.
