Gah! Just looking at the boat again and realised I could make a Star Wars land speeder using the same basic shapes. I think I'll have to do that now.

And here now is this week'd progress:
I have completed a second forward battery cruiser. It looks like the old on, so no photos. I have also made some more turrets so everything is fully turreted up.
And now, on to things I DO have pictures of! Huzzah!

Here we see the glorious and potent speed boat being all glorious and potent.

A feat it can pull off from both ends.

This is the very small van. It is very small. The trains which appear in the same photo as this in a previous post are also complete apart from wheels, but they don't really look any different, so I took no photos.

Now we reach the important stuff - this is a submerged submarine for what is now called 'High Seas Fleet' - the floorgame I have been developing to go with the ship models. Said rules are located in this locale.

These are the submarines when surfaced.

This is how they will look in play. Except I will drill the hole deeper so they actually sit on the base plate. I didn't have the towers glued together so I only drilled out the bottom part.

On the coming Tuesday I will
  • Make the torpedo launch rail
  • Make torpedo racks to store the marbles on and keep track of shots fired
  • Make the meassuring sticks used for moving the various classes of ship
  • Get covered in saw dust

Last night I built boring things like torpedo launch rails and holders. And glued some parts together to bandsaw into an elaborate rally car next week.
And made some cats on the scroll saw.

One of these cats is not made from wood. But which one?
The scroll saw I used was a bit of a pain - it did not like straight lines and kept trying to cut curves and I could not get it to cut tight enough curves when I wanted curves...
sigh.

I have applied two coats of stain/varnish to the Forward Battery fleet today. I'll give them another tomorrow and also start to varnish the high fo'c'sle fleet.

I also got sick of not having the biplanes glued together. So I glued on together.
Obviously still needs a few things done.

The the night which is known as 'last', finding myself heartily sick of proofread physical education reports, I did betake me unto the wood work room, where I laboured on certain labours.
To wit; One rally car, wrought from rare and exotic woods*

The body is in three parts, which were once in two parts, and before that many more. I shall explain - the center part is one assembly, which was made by gluing together three pieces, the outer parts being pine, the inner bit being something dark and interesting looking. The fenders where made by sandwhiching a piece of dark andinteresting wood twixt palid and boring pine planks. Once these had been shaped, a band saw was employed to split the whole lot down the middle so the two halves could be placed either side of the central part.
Such complexity. So wooden. Wow.

Here we see the body with out the spoiler and bumper present. Neither of those bits is finished anyway. Also note the lack of wheels.

Having completed my work on high speed automobiles, I decided to have at the scroll saw. Having broken the blade, I fitted a new one, and discovered all the bending and cutting wonky of last week were due to the blade originally fitted being the wrong kind. The new blade proved more amenable to my desires, and allowed me to cut various intricate animalistic forms. These shall be distributed willy-nilly to colleagues as christmas presents. Note the hippo is a ballerina. She will be fitted with a fabric tutu and ears, so things will make more sense.
The animals have not been properly cleaned and sanded yet.

Alas, next week signals the start of holidays, meaning I have no access to the mighty machinery for two weeks. Fortunately, my dad has just delivered the slightly less might jigsaw bench he has built around my jigsaw. This may allow for certain things. It may not.

*this is a down right lie. It's made from scraps harvested from the back of the tool room.
